Hey Cracker, I'm cooking, punkin'. I made a couple substitutions in your recipe, I have a pork loin in the crock pot & I bought the bar-b-cue sauce instead of making my own. When this is done cooking, I'll shred it & tomorrow morning I'll put it all back in the pot. I got slaw like you suggested & some fab kaiser rolls from the bakery. Next week I'm doing Sally's dead uncle's wings. Heh heh.

WHAT DID I DO WRONG??? I went to the apple orchard today and decided to make an apple pie. It is not something I make too often, so I can never remember which recipe turned out well in the past or what type of apples to use. I asked this Amish lady who claims to have been baking apple pies for 25 years and she recommended Jona Gold apples. So I get some, make my own pastry shell and follow a dutch apple recipe. Now I have a bowl of fucking soup!! It is not even the consistancy of syrup...you need a ladel..it is basically ice cream topping. I'm guessing that all the liquid is from the apples? But WTF? What apples are best? This recipe called for me to dice the apples, add a cup of sugar, cinnamon and tad bit flour and pour in shell, bake at 425 for 10 min, take out and cover with crumbly topping of brown sugar, flour and butter, then bake for 30 more min at 325. I added a little extra brown sugar because I love the crumbly stuff...was that the problem or was it because I diced the apples, or was it just a lousy recipe with a poor apple choice? I'm really fucking annoyed. I have let it sit for hours hoping it would set up, but I just checked...it is still soup time!

Maybe cornstarch instead of the flour? The flour is there to thicken the juices. Cornstarch, or tapioca, works better. If you are going to use flour, use more next time.

Don't feel badly. Half the time I make fudge it ends up being ice cream topping.

Does anybody have a juicer? Do you have any juice recipes that don't taste like ass? I don't care what anybody says, next time I'm peeling the carrots and taking the bitter seeds out of the apples. I already tried adding pineapple and ginger, didn't help that much.

Thanks for the advice Cracker. Next time I will add more flour, instead of just a few tablespoons. We have a juicer and my husband used it all the time because we have a garden. I'll have to ask him what recipes he used. He would pretty much put anything in there that would liquify. I never drank any because it smelled like ass!

Drink the juice, kitty. You want your husband to die before you so you can have a few years of peace.

You have to make sure there is a coating of flour on the apples. And don't use that kind of apple, they are juice apples. Use dry apples like Granny Smith. You can't go wrong with Granny Smith. Your recipe would have worked with a drier apple.

I'm waiting for him to make something that tastes like V8, then Kitty will drink the juice!

Damn! I knew I shouldn't have taken the advice of that stinky Amish lady! I think I may have used Granny Smith last year. I made a killer pie last year and I used Smith something?

I'm a little surprised that the Amish chick gave you bad info, those bitches are normally top notch cooks/bakers.

I got a big bag of wings at Costco so I can make Sally's dead uncle's recipe. Please pray for me, I don't want to burn my house down, I think I need someone who has experience deep frying.

Just don't over crowd the pot and make the oil boil over, then you'll really have a mess. Also when you add the butter to the hotsauce you can add more or less. They'll be spicer and if you add less butter.

I am making Dead Guy's Wings right now. Well, Dead Guy's chicken tenders with all the funk removed. They are my new favorite.

The wings were a hit! My only issue is that every friggin' time I cook my team loses. I'm not doing it anymore!

I use this [Image: 99884_285.jpg] then I just peel the slices. It fits in a drawer. But I don't do an entire bushel of apples.

Apple crisp is my all-time fav with good vanilla ice cream. And apple pie with a soft bottom crust and a flaky top crust. Fried apples if I'm being lazy.

Here's an onion recipe I was going to try from my friend: Slice the top off of a Vidalia onion (or any large, sweet onion) and peel the skin. Leave the bottom on to hold it together. Put a beef bullion cube in the center (you have to make a hole) and a large pat of butter on the top. Wrop in foil and bake at 400 for about an hour. She says it is fabulous to have with crostini.

this may or may not be an artificial/contrived "crisis" /shortage but i'm going to stock up. i think you're going to see a run on peanut butter very soon. like this month. i'm sticking this post in 2 places so everyone will know.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Brace yourselves, peanut butter lovers -- prices are set to spike following one of the worst peanut harvest seasons growers have seen in years.

Prices for a ton of runner peanuts, commonly used to make peanut butter, hit nearly $1,200 this week, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. That's up from just $450 per ton a year ago.

It won't be long before consumers see this price increase reflected on store shelves.

Kraft (KFT, Fortune 500) will raise prices for its Planters brand peanut butter by 40% starting Oct. 31, while ConAgra (CAG, Fortune 500) expects increases of more than 20% for its Peter Pan brand.

A spokesperson for Unilever (UL), which makes Skippy, would say only that it's watching the situation "very closely."

Representatives for J.M. Smucker (SJM, Fortune 500), which makes Jif, did not respond to a request for comment, though the Associated Press reported that Jif's wholesale prices are set to rise 30% in November.

What's to blame for this sticky situation? The intense heat and drought that hit the southern U.S. this year, said John Beasley, a professor of crop physiology and management at the University of Georgia.

"It was just unmerciful, and we had a lot of problems setting the crop," he said. "I literally walked some fields that had zero yield."
