Lauryn Dickens was last seen in the 4900 block of Yale Road in Raleigh

( Memphis, TN 9/20/10) No amber alert has been issued for 9-month-old Lauryn Dickens. She's missing almost two weeks.

"I think it's weird. What's weird about it, that's she's missing and nobody is looking for her," said Gail Scott.

Scott lives in the apartment right next to Sharika Dickens where she lived with her 9 month old named Lauryn. Dickens reported Lauryn missing on at the end of last week.

She told Memphis Police that on September 7 she willingly handed the baby over to a woman that she didn't know. HUH??

She told police she gave the woman the baby because the woman said she was a friend of the child's father. Memphis police say they checked that story.

And the child's father is in behind bars and denies having anything to do with the disappearances. Police say they have not proved any of Shakira Dickens story to be true.

Memphis Police have not issued an Amber Alert since the baby was not reported to be abducted. They say there is still very little known about where baby Lauryn could possibly be.

Memphis Police say the baby's mother reports Lauryn was last seen wearing a brown onesie with a pink flower and pink dots.

Anyone who sees her is asked to call the Missing Persons Bureau at 901-636-4479

baby-daddy is in jail.
he and the mama both have criminal records.

Monday, jail records said baby's father, Benjamin Norfleet, was in jail on a building burglary charge. He told police he knows nothing about the baby's location.

But according to an incident report, the baby's mother, Shakara Dickens, told police she talked with Norfleet on September 7 about "the welfare of the child and her not being able to care for the child properly."

The report said Norfleet told Dickens to, "give the child to an unknown female-white." SURE! NO NAME, NOTHING! JUST HAND YOUR BABY OVER. UH HUH.

Dickens said the woman came to her Raleigh apartment complex that day. She allegedly gave the baby to the woman, and has not seen her daughter for about a week and a half.

The woman who allegedly took the baby was described as a white female, 40 to 50 years old, who wears eyeglasses and has gray, shoulder-length, straight hair with a center part. The woman was last seen wearing a buttoned blouse, khaki Capri pants, and white, closed toe sandals.

The baby may have a chance or not but being out of that type of insane asylum could be a start. I can only hope the mystery woman that has the baby did so to protect her. If indeed that is the truth. Some people cannot pick themselves off the ground never mind their children. This is the shit I cannot wrap my mind around. Why? Because I have a hard time believing that the cycle of ineptness and pure stupidity can be broken.

* Shakara Dickens arrested after reporting her daughter missing
* She could be charged with aggravated child neglect and endangerment
* Police say she's given conflicting stories about giving her daughter to someone she doesn't know

09/21/2010

The mother of a missing 9 month old girl is behind bars.
Shakara Dickens is being held as police investigate possible charges of aggravated child neglect and endangerment.

Investigators arrested Dickens because they say she has given "conflicting statements about the disappearance of her daughter," Lauryn.

The arrest came after police spent the day at the 19-year-old mother's Raleigh Village Apartment.

Neighbors watched as investigators pulled little Lauryn's car seat and walker from her mother's home. One officer walked out with a brown paper bag filled with something inside. Police even searched using cadaver dogs.

Seeing all the officers and the Crime Scene Investigator's car has Jameka Branch thinking the worst.

"It probably happened up there," she said pointing to Shakara's apartment. "Why do crime scene?" After pausing she finished, saying "they don't be around unless it's a crime scene."hah

According to police records on September 15 , 2010 Shakara reported her daughter missing.

That's a whole week after she claims she gave her daughter to a stranger.

"It's too many lies around here," said neighbor Laquisha Branch. "She's showing no remorse. If it was me I would be out here pulling strings of hair...looking for mine."

Whether Shakara's story is true or not, people are just hoping police find little Lauryn alive.

Homicide detectives are now involved in this investigation.

they better charge her with something. or they have to let her go.
Memphis Police have confiscated the vehicle they believe Shakara Dickens was driving around the time her 10-month old baby disappeared.
The vehicle belongs to Shakara's mother, and was towed from Brownsville Road Elementary School.

Shakara Dickens is behind bars. She has not been charged but police have her on a 48-hour hold for aggravated child neglect and endangerment. They say she gave conflicting statements about her daughter's disappearance. According to police records, Dickens told police she gave her daughter to a stranger on September 7th. she says the woman claimed to be a friend of her daughter's father, 19-year old Benjamin Norfleet. He's behind bars for breaking into cars. Director Godwin says time isn't on their side because the mother waited 8 days before reporting the disappearance to police.
"When it's nine days old you've eliminated an Amber Alert and fresh tracks. If she gave the child to someone where did they go?" said Godwin.
Now, Godwin says they are left to rely on clues, possibly found from a car seat and walker, pulled from Dickens' Raleigh Village apartment. It is the last place little Lauryn was seen.
"Were going to take those things send those off just to make sure that something didn't happen and it was cleaned up."
Shakara Dickens can be held until 5:30pm Thursday under the 48 hour hold.
We tried to talk to both grandmothers of the baby Lauryn, they declined to comment.

this grandmother is a teacher?? she threw eggs at a reporter!
these people are garbage.

WREG Reporter Stephanie Scurlock : While authorities search for the baby, who would have turned 10 months old today, sources say they wish little Lauryn's family was cooperating more.

For the second day in a row we've obtained a search warrant in the case.

This one details a search of the maternal grandmother's home and what police found there.

Sources say she isn't being as helpful as she could in the search so we went to find out why.

She didn't give News Channel 3 an interview but she did send a message.

Tracey Dickens is Shakara's mother, a Memphis City School teacher and the grandmother of 10-month-old, Lauryn.

Tracey Dickens has the baby's picture as her Facebook profile.

There are other photos of the baby and Shakara and Shakara's other child on the page. They're listed under the heading "People I love."

Sources say Tracey Dickens isn't cooperating in the search for her missing grandaughter.

Dickens isn't saying where Shakara's other child is or if she knows anything about the missing baby. She rushed passed our camera and ignored the my questions as she left her Raleigh home.

Dickens didn't answer my questions but she or a friend did send a message to me just minutes before. Eggs were thrown at photographer Tyler Chow and me. They missed their mark.

However, the grandmother did pass along another message. While we were sitting outside her home she posted a new Facebook status. It said, "Thinkn (sic) abt (sic) throwing eggs at the news reporters in front of my house. Be sure to quote me while u (sic) run bitch."

Police went to the school where Tracey Dickens teaches to search her car.

She refused to meet them in the principal's office. No word what they eventually found in the car, but in her house they took baby clothes, blankets and a baby stroller.

yes. squeeze the bitch.

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - The mother of a missing baby was charged with abuse last week, but officials said a murder charge is still possible.

Shakara Dickens, 19, remains locked up at Jail East on a $2 million. She faces decades behind bars if convicted on her current charge.

The Shelby County District Attorney's office has prosecuted defendants for murder in the past when a victim's body was never located. In this case, police continue to process evidence collected from two residences and a car connected to Dickens.

Shakara Dickens' 10-month-old daughter Lauryn Dickens remains missing.

According to court records, police already believe Lauryn Dickens may have met a tragic end. So far, neither her mother nor her family are providing information on her possible whereabouts.

waiting for a murder charge.

Nearly a month after 10-month-old Lauryn Dickens disappeared, her mother appeared in court Friday on charges in connection with her disappearance.

Even as Shakara Dickens appeared in court, investigators were no closer to finding the location of her baby. Dickens reported Lauryn missing on September 17, one week after she allegedly gave the child to a stranger.

Dickens has hired attorney Murray Wells.

"Obviously the concern is for everyone is for the child, and for our client, and we're going to try to take care of everything the best we can," Wells said.

Dickens is in jail on a $2 million bond for aggravated child neglect and filing a false report. Her attorneys will ask that her bond be reduced at her next hearing later this month.

A crowd of Dickens's family and friends showed up for the hearing.

"The family is still really in a state of shock," Wells said. I think they're very concerned about the child and they're very concerned about Miss Dickens."

But they continue to avoid making a public statement about Dickens and her missing baby.
because they fucking know the pig killed her. i wonder if the classy grandma threw eggs at the judge?

"They're coming together and sort of closed themselves up and taking this time," Wells said. "It's really almost a mourning time for them to kind of understand what's happened to this family."

Dickens will be back in court October 21st for a preliminary hearing, where the state will have to show probable cause.
