Zahra Baker, a murdered child
first letter post#240, previous page.
next letter:

Hi Damien,

Sorry its took me so long to get back to you, but I had to wait until my lawyers put a lil money in my account. Thanks for your moral support. I need it although I’m not sure I deserve it at this point. As you probably know my family has turned pretty much against me and everyone is telling so many lies. Yeah I had my lawyers shut my myspace down cause of the bad publicity but once I am out I will redo it. My birthday is 6-6-68 so people was reading too much into that an my opening song living dead girl thing is I have had that myspace before I met Adam or Zahra. I am not sure how it or my face book got opened they was both marked private, but the cops can do whatever they want. 98% of the media stuff is lies that’s why everyone wants me dead. But I have 2 of the best lawyers in the country and my own private investigator. I am 42, been told I don’t look my age even though my picture they are using on TV. Sucks If you have read my myspace you know quite a bit about me, but normally my hair is black and red and I have lost way too much weight. I never knew I was to look and act like everyone else in this stupid world. I don’t wanna be normal I have tried. but its hard covering all my tattoos and I love my piercings. My youngest grandson middle name is Damien thanks to me. Yes I can receive Money orders as long as they are from the post office and I can have pictures, just not serial. You ask what things I am into, well I love all horror movies. and even some mushy stuff too. I love the twilight movies. I watch those and wish I could get so lucky for someone to love me that way. As far as music well you know most of what I like but I love Nickelback, Linkin Park, Korn stuff like that too. I write music and sing when I get a chance. I have a couple famous friends that sing as well. As far as Charles Manson is was truely a evil man. Makes you wonder what happened to make them that way. All I have gotten is hate mail since I been here from everyone even my kids but you so it really is good to have at least person I can write and hopefully be friends with. The cops have my pocket book & money so my lawyers put me a lil money in my account so I could get paper and envelopes. This whole situation just suks. When I get out I have been told I have no where to go. so I am a bit scared. I have truely lost my whole life. So tell me a lil about you about you, are you marries do you have kids? What else are you into? You know sorta what I look like, so what do you look like? Have you ever been is jail? It ain’t a fun place to be. I sure miss my warm waterbed. I’m on the floor at the moment in solitary confinement. Im climbing the walls literally. I hope to soon be out but who knows what Im doing when I do. Im gonna miss my favorite holiday Halloween, the one time a year I dont get judged and maybe thanksgiving and Christmas. I feel completely alone. well I guess I have said enough. Hope to hear back from you soon!

Dark Hearts,
Elesa Baker

You and me both. I heard the partial letters that this nasty old betch wrote from jail and she is still thinking about no one but herself. That child was everything that dirty cooze Elisa Baker ever hoped to be in her life and never was. Zahra was more in her 10 years of life than that whore was in her whole miserable life on this earth. That's why Elisa hated her. (I hope that made sense - I've had a very busy day and my brain is fried).

Let's hope the justice and peace this poor girl deserves is served.
I sure hope so, and I hope that DCFS is held accountable for their failure in protecting this child.

Edited to add:

THANK YOU THANK YOU for posting the letter!!!

this will take a couple posts.

I'm numb. It's like being punched in the guts. I'm absolutely dumbfounded.

LC - I think you are being kind. I won't even start until the nausea subsides.

The divorce statement has been bothering me all afternoon . . . perhaps an end-around marital privelege?

Revolting pity whore. What a fucking brazen bitch!

Tiki: "The divorce statement has been bothering me all afternoon . . . perhaps an end-around marital privelege?"

there is usually no marital privilege in cases where one parent, or both, has abused a child. not sure about NC, but most likely no privilege. and the privilege only means they can't be compelled to testify against the other. not that they can't.

back to draining a pond:
HICKORY, NC (WBTV) - A week since a prosthetic leg was found belonging to a missing 10-year-old girl, searchers have returned to that same area to drain a pond and look for more clues related to her 3 week disappearance.

On Wednesday morning, about 2 dozen people were searching off Christie Road in Caldwell County looking for anything related Zahra Baker, whose stepmother, Elisa, is still being held in jail. Near noon on Wednesday, crews with a pump arrived and began draining a pond in that area.

A friend of Elisa Baker spoke with NewsChannel 36 Wednesday morning and says she received a letter from Elisa on Monday.

In that letter, Elisa said Adam Baker had nothing to do with Zahra’s disappearance. She did not mention whether or not she was involved.

Both friends and relatives of Elisa Baker say that she often made things up and the friend who received the letter on Monday says she isn’t sure what to believe.

if this is all it is, it could be an animal bone. unless of course it is clearly human. waiting for police statement.

Hickory Record

Hickory police have recovered a bone Wednesday in connection to the Zahra Baker case.

Police would not confirm where the bone was recovered other than saying it was in Caldwell County. However, they have spent the majority of the day searching along Christie Road, off Pine Mountain Road. Christie Road is the same area that Baker's prosthetic leg was found last week.

Deal would not comment on what part of the body the bone appears to be from.

Investigators with the SBI, Hickory Police Department and the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office arrived at Christie Road at about 9 a.m. Wednesday. During their search, they even drained a pond, but did not recover anything in it, said Maj. Clyde Deal with the Hickory Police Department.

The bone will now be sent to the medical examiner's office in Chapel Hill for further testing. After those tests are completed and it's determined that the bone is connected to the Zahra Baker case, it will go to the SBI lab in Raleigh for additional tests, according to the Hickory Police Department.

Deal said investigators are not necessarily finished with the area.

"We are going back until we're satisfied we've recovered everything," he said.

Police have told news vehicles and helicopter to leave the search area.
that's for more than just a bone in my experience. we'll see if tent goes up and M.E. wagon appears.

edit later to add: scene is locked down to facilitate further searching tomorrow. so it seems they will be trying to locate more bones which may well be scattered over a large area. it will be a tight close grid search.

i cannot find anything about this in the press yet, but nancy grace's producer just reported a new jailhouse letter by elisa baker stating they "found Zahra dead". waiting for details. letter went to a cousin.

so she claimed Zahra had been very sick, she died, so they disposed of her/or dismembered her instead of calling 911?? HUH?? and threw her prosthetic leg in the bushes? we're supposed to believe that? Jesus.

Missing Aussie girl's mom thinks daughter is dead

The Associated Press
Friday, November 5, 2010; 6:13 AM

SYDNEY -- The biological mother of an Australian girl who was reported missing from her home in the U.S. nearly a month ago said through tears Friday that she believes her daughter is dead.

Emily Dietrich, whose 10-year-old daughter Zahra Baker was living in Hickory, North Carolina, with her father and stepmother, said she has little hope of seeing Zahra alive again.

"I don't feel it," she told Australia's Seven Network in her first interview since the girl's disappearance. "I reckon that mothers just have this bond with their children."

Zahra's father, Adam Baker, reported her missing Oct. 9. Authorities have said they believe the girl is dead. No one has been charged in her disappearance.

"I never got to say goodbye," Dietrich said of her daughter, who relies on hearing aids and a prosthetic leg because of bone cancer.

Dietrich said she suffered postnatal depression after Zahra's birth and handed over custody to Adam Baker. Later, though, she decided she wanted to be in the girl's life and spent years trying to track the pair. But every time she found Baker, she said, he would disappear.

Using the Internet, she discovered he was living in the U.S. Just three days later, she said, Zahra was reported missing.

"Why would it happen that I would find her and three days later this would happen?" she said, sobbing.

As for the letters, they have not been verified as legitimate by LE, at least they have not stated so. Local news report here in Charlotte, WBTV, retained a handwriting expert who examined the alleged letters and compared them with copies of the bad checks. His conclusion was there were little to no similarities.

However, as in any case, when you have an expert, another expert can surmise the opposite. Who knows?

this is the ONLY thing (Deputy Chief's comment below) i have that remotely says they may be legit. also, if they went through the jail mail they were possibly copied before they went out. they should also have correct postmark and perhaps "inmate mail" stamped on them. outgoing mail usually has to bear inmate's name and inmate ID on return address. and even a stamp from jail saying it was inspected for contraband. i don't know their protocols of course.

Hickory Deputy Chief of Police Clyde Deal acknowledged that the letters likely were written by Elisa Baker. "I think probably these letters were down at the jail," he said after AOL News showed them to him. "I am not a handwriting analyst, but I mean I wouldn't suspect that it didn't [come from her].

I don't have much to add except that today's reports say the bone was a whole bone not a fragment which hopefully finally gets the woodchipper out of the picture. http://www.wbtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=13297637 IMO HPD has held on tight to alot of info and the fact that they are releasing info that they found a bone leads me to believe they are certain it is human.

The only other thing I wanted to point out is this sentence:
I can have pictures, just not serial.

I believe it says:
I can have pictures, just not sexual.

**edit for spelling

I still get nauseous when I read these letters. Real or fake. Sick shit.

However - did anyone else find it odd that the above quoted section is in block print? Mid-sentence change from cursive to block . . . . . . thoughts?

Toys on the floor of Zahra's closet.
A hole in the kitchen ceiling.
A hole in Zahra's bedroom floor.
Clothes in Zahra's closet.

HICKORY (WBTV) - Zahra Baker has been missing since Oct. 9, but when WBTV toured her home in Hickory on Friday, the 10-year-old girl's clothes were still hanging in her closet and a Candyland game was on the top shelf.

Those might be the only two normal things in the house her family has since been evicted from.

Elsewhere, the house is a mess: walls have been punched through, entire sinks are missing and there are holes through the floor and ceiling. Outside, in the front yard, a small shrine to Zahra continues to grow.
Detectives have not just torn up the yard and combed through the house, they have dismantled large portions of the home while looking for evidence of her disappearance.
In the 3-bedroom, 1-bathroom house, Friday WBTV saw that the entire bathroom sink and cabinets were gone. The kitchen sink was gone.

Elsewhere, there are also holes in several walls of the house where the Baker family lived starting in July of this year, having moved from a mobile home in Caldwell County.

The most stark contrast is in Zahra's pink bedroom where an entire section of the floor is gone – and the bare ground is visible just feet from her closet with toys and clothes.

In other rooms, some floorboards are pulled up and missing, but the sub-flooring was left in place.
