i am suitably impressed...one of my sons just did this jack-o-lantern, i like it! except his only tools are my good kitchen knives. 52 i need to find something better for that purpose.
he only has 12 more to go and the GIANT 50 lb. pumpkin he grew! :O

I'm going to embarrass myself horribly but, what the fuck.

LC, there are "kits", for lack of a better word. They include little saws & knives as well as stencils for the pumpkins. I know this because I bought one for my godson & myself to use. They are dirt cheap & the stencils are awesome, many different ones are included.

i love this! it's the Great Pumpkin! my son grew this monster pumpkin, and carved it today. the kids trick-or-treating should enjoy it! he waited, watched, watered and nurtured all summer for this thing to grow up for halloween. parsley eyebrows ^^

Those are neat LC. I wish I had the patience for that. Digging out the Pumkin inards grosses me out though...too slimy.

I must confess...My first thought on the one pic was that the Pumkin was crapping a Chipmonk. hah

i dried and saved the seeds from the GIANT pumpkin to plant next year. and roasted some. the rest of the pumpkin guts and seeds are in the compost pile, which will probably germinate in the spring, run amok and consume the entire neighborhood!
there are telltale teethmarks in every one of my pumpkins lining the walkway!

LC, do you live out in the boonies or something? Do you have to drive really far to get to a dollar store? Because you can find those little kits just about anywhere. They look really cheap and ineffective, but they actually work very well.
Has anyone ever tried the pumkin carvings where you don't actually cut all the way through the pumkin? You just widdle away the top rind and leave the rest. The light inside the pumpkin will let the design show through. They look really cool, but I haven't tried it yet. They usually do it with a Halloween scene rather than just a Jack o lantern face.
