epidemic ahead? cholera in Haiti

The anti-vaccine parents piss me off. Your kid isn't going to get autism just because Jenny McCarthy's kid happens to be retarded.

Old thread. When I saw the title my first thought was "God hates Haiti".

It's stupid not to get vaccinations or not have your kids get vaccinated. Especially for the shit you (they) can die from.

Granted, I was a little hesitant about the HPV vaccine but it was out a couple of years before my kids were due (y' all know they're recommending it for boys too now, right?). Anyway, I finally had my kids get their first shots a little over a year ago and I'm happy to report no side effects. I've gotta get them back for a follow up shot but my son won't go to the doctor now cuz he's sure they're going to grab his nuts the next time he walks in the door.

Since I just got over a flu bug, I'm kicking myself for skipping the vaccine this year (and last IIRC). All those years I was getting the vaccine...laughing at the idiots suffering through the flu and I was one of them this year.

I don't do the flu or HPV vaccine, but my kids get all the mandatory ones. We've never had the flu and we're all healthy so I feel like I'd be jinxing myself with it. And I really haven't decided on the HPV yet.

My son acts the same way about going to the doctors. He had to go for a sports physical and I had to assure him that they're not going to examine his penis for fucks sake.

There have been nine deaths attributed to the H1N1 strain in my area. The last one was a healthy 29 year old male. He died less than six hour after going to the hospital.

The anti vaccine conspiracy mongs do my head in and as six posted we are now seeing the results of idiots swallowing the conspiracy koolaid.

As far as health matters are concerned its best to do the opposite of anything Jenny fucking McCarthy says. Just shake your tits for the camera bitch and shut the fuck up.

I've been getting a flu shot the past few years with no issues at all but after getting one this year I was sick, so sick, within hours. I was fine the following morning & I can't say for certain it was the shot that made me ill but it was enough to put me off of ever getting one again.

Back in 76 or 77 I was still in the military and the Swine Flu shots were mandatory.
They came out and dragged me off an aircraft at the end of the unwary and took me to the shot clinic for the shot. Thats the only one I ever had that made me sick, ran a slight fever for 2 days. Wasn't that I minded taking the shot, its just one more of Hundreds of vaccinations I had in 4 years. But working 12 or 14 hrs at a time at night I had already missed 2 appointments working broke birds. Hospital commander took exception to that

I'd put it off to coincidence before I'd give up the flu shots. One year of being sick following years of getting it successfully? It was probably the KFC you ate on the way over to the Drs. office.

Seriously, I'm not missing another year. My flu wasn't that horrible and although I know flu deaths occur every year, that really isn't my concern (maybe it should be but it's not). I just can't stand being laid up for days with the chills/fever/craps...all when it might have been prevented by one little shot. I started getting them when I had the flu and my kids were babies and I literally couldn't care for them. I got the shot for the next 11 or so years and never got the flu. Then I got complacent...I'll be first in line next year.

I believe the flu shots this year were for 3 different types of flu. If I recall, swine flu wasn't one of them. Swine flu is what's going around and people are dying. I think we've had 10 deaths in IN.

The world news said it's targeting healthy adults ages 18 to 60, and pregnant women.

I've never got a flu shot and probably never will. When I get sick I just deal with it. I don't have any particular reason for not getting it, I just don't. My boss got one for the first time this year and he was sick for 2 days.

I remember back in 09 when the swine flu hit hard and they seemed to come up with a vaccine overnight. I thought it was way too fast and didn't trust it. They were strongly recommending getting the shot for babies and the elderly. I was glad my g-daughters pediatrician told my son not to get the shot for her. She was 2 months premature, and had double pneumonia the month before. I would have thought she would be a prime candidate for the vaccine, but he wasn't giving the shots to any of his patients.

Vaccine Choices Abound This Year...

It took me forever to find this but I recalled hearing the opposite; that there was some swine flu protection in the vaccine this year. The swine flu is called H1N1 (as I understand it) and I found this about this years vaccination:

This season, your choice of flu vaccine is more diverse than ever. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved several new flu vaccines, including trivalent (three strain) and quadrivalent (four strain) vaccines. As reported in Time Magazine1 last month, available choices this year will include:

Standard three-strain flu vaccine. This year’s version includes influenza strains H1N1 and H3N2, and an influenza B virus Egg-free vaccine (FluBlok), in which the influenza virus’ were grown in caterpillar cells instead of chicken eggs.
Quadrivalent, or four-strain vaccine, which includes two A class of viruses and two from the B class, which tends to cause illness primarily in young children. High-dose vaccines, promoted for seniors aged 65 and over
Nasal spray, called FluMist. This year it will contain four strains opposed to three, matching the quadrivalent injection Intradermal vaccine, promoted for those afraid of needles. The vaccine is delivered through a panel of micro-needles rather than a single needle.

I don't care, I'm getting my vaccine next year. 54

I stand corrected. I was mainly talking about how fast they came out with it in 09 when the swine flu was so bad. 6 years is plenty of time to come up with something better.
