First the bars, now the parks...what's next, the town, the state?

Clickity-click-click for story

First of all, up front, I smoke. Secondly, I do my best not to impose anything about my habit on others (always throw my butts away, if I'm around non-smokers I'll step downwind, ect, ect...) But this shit is going too far. Come'on people, we're talking about being outside, in rather large areas.

If they can impose such laws outside, what's to prevent them from making entire towns smoke free (in this case, by putting up signs)? Sure, the smoke stinks to those that don't smoke..but so does the 100's of thousands of pounds of shit coming out of industrial smoke stacks...and I'm sure it's just as bad for you as second hand smoke is purportedly to be (although I'm not sure I buy that).

Is this shit gonna stop? And if so, at what point?

I don't buy the second hand smoke crap, it's just a scapegoat for all the other pollutants. I'd rather not smell it while I'm eating at a restaurant, but then again I don't want to smell someones stinking ass perfume that they took a bath in either. I can understand banning it in public places, but it's going too far when they start trying to ban people from smoking outside at all, especially when we are subjected to far worse chemicals and pollutants every day that people don't even blink an eye at.

Telling people they can't smoke in an open air venue like a park is bordering on dictator like.

There will come a time when anything that accepts government funding is going to have caveats such as this attached to the monies.

They have already banned drinking in the parks, no one said shit, why wouldn't they take another step?

This is just another step, it all started with having to wear seatbelts in your personal vehicle, as long as the masses sit idle and let them take control ,control is what they will take.

you do know that in the government they can still smoke in their offices in your public building that you supply for them with tax dollars, you did know that right? the smoking ban did not and does not affect the smokers in elected offices.

No, I wasn't aware of that and I have reason to think that many, MANY people are unaware as well.

You mean that whole cigar thing with Bill didn't ring a bell?

I love Bill and don't care a wit that he can't keep his pecker in his pants. My only issue with him was that we received no tax breaks, he considers horse racing a hobby not a business. 78

This stems from a traumatic experience in his youth. The grocery store amusement ride ate his quarter and pleasured him for just twenty seconds.

Besides - he thinks "furlong" means unshaven. He prefers smooth.

About the cigar . . .

I really don't think a vagina makes a good humidor.

I don't buy into that second hand smoke bull shit either. I am a non smoker, but frankly... It pisses me off to see smokers rights being taken away inch by inch.... The bottom line is they are legal! And being legal, how can the government get away with telling you you can't use them anywhere? If you don't want them used the way they are suppose to be used, then make them illegal? Oh wait... way too much government money involved to do that!

I honestly dont mind at all being forced to be outside, as I fully understand it really bothers some people. Shit, I don't even mind being asked to be 20' away from entrances...but when they start taking away the outside part of it, it's getting ridiculous.

I dont understand the bar thing at all, and if I was a bar owner, I'd be a bit pissed, even if I didnt smoke. I can't help but wonder when they're gonna target casinos? That will kill a lot of gambling business.

when i still lived in florida, and they passed the restaurant thing about smoking, i stopped going to indoor restaurants. period. only frequented the outdoor venues at the beach. i understood, but fuck 'em, i was not spending money where i was unhappy. and believe me, the bar/restaurant owners were acutely aware of the loss of business.
even up here in the frozen north, i don't go to restaurants until the outdoor waterfront lobster joints open.

I think my state was the first to enact the smoking ban & I know for a fact that many bars still let their customers smoke, if they get reported and that's a big if, they choose to pay the fine and move on.

You can't exclude people from a business open to the public.

They can make smokers smoke outside but they can't make non smokers sit outside, it's almost as fucked up as the laws requiring you to wear a seat belt in your car, restrain kids in child seats, but let your kids ride a school bus without them.

I don't know what laws have been enacted in Nev, as all of this crap is generally a State thing. Perhaps in Nev, one can still smoke in bars/restaurants. Oher than that, we're talking about Indian reservations, which pretty much set their own tribal laws, and Atlantic City..which is a puzzler, as I'm sure New Jersey has enacted very similar state laws about smoking as the rest of the states. I've got a decent wench friend on another forum that lives in NJ. I'll ask her about this....

The people who usually bitch about cigarette smoke are usually super fat. I wonder if they know it is worse to be fat than to smoke?

I just saw it was Idaho. They probably aren't fat. They probably love the earth and cigarette butts don't deteriorate soon enough for them. Sucks for you the hippies stopped smoking weed and cigs and are all Buddhist now.
