How can trolls be recognized?

How can troll posts be recognised?
  • No Imagination - Most are frighteningly obvious; sexist comments on nurses' groups, blasphemy on religious groups .. I kid you not.
  • Pedantic in the Extreme - Many trolls' preparation is so thorough, that while they waste time, they appear so ludicrous from the start that they elicit sympathetic mail - the danger is that once the group takes sides, the damage is done.
  • False Identity - Because they are cowards, trolls virtually never write over their own name, and often reveal their trolliness (and lack of imagination) in the chosen ID. As so many folk these days use false ID, this is not a strong indicator on its own!
  • Crossposting - Any post that is crossposted to several groups should be viewed as suspicious, particularly if unrelated or of opposing perspective. Why would someone do that?
  • Off-topic posting - Often genuine errors, but, if from an 'outsider' they deserve matter-of-fact response; if genuine, a brief apposite response is simply netiquette; if it's a troll post, you have denied it its reward.
  • Repetition of a question or statement is either a troll - or a pedant; either way, treatment as a troll is effective.
  • Missing The Point - Trolls rarely answer a direct question - they cannot, if asked to justify their twaddle - so they develop a fine line in missing the point.
  • Thick or Sad - Trolls are usually sad, lonely folk, with few social skills; they rarely make what most people would consider intelligent conversation. However, they frequently have an obsession with their IQ and feel the need to tell everyone. This is so frequent, that it is diagnostic! Somewhere on the web there must be an rigged to always say "above 150"

MF seems to change his definition of a troll hourly, dependingon who's doing the trolling of course. His highly selective memory and selective short sightedness also effect his definition of trolling.

I don't think I've ever been a troll but, that kind of pain in the ass bullshit really appeals to my snarky side...I think I could prolly really get off on starting some shit with peopleI didn't like, matter of fact, I'm sure of it.

Well I don't go whinging to MF at 24 with tears in my eyes every five minutes to complain so.......

Any trolling aimed at me there will be ignored unless I or someone else points it out, we have already established MF's inconsistent and myopic admining.

I think it is ridiculous for adults to complain to their admin. via pm about other adults...It seems so school yard like...Like they are being tattletales...I would leave a forum before I would ever complain to an admin. or mod about other members but, that's just me.

The Forum Cultist. Forum cultists are extremely proud of the incredible Internet communities to which they belong. They pride themselves on the exclusivity of those communities and actually believe that "it can't happen to them" ⿿ "it," of course, being their own banishment. Forum cultists place a very high premium on groupthink and generally react to differing opinions with outrage, banning all who dare to speak them.

The only reason I ever complain(which is a rare occurence which MF knows to be a fact) is if its something serious, like that biker meathead using theN word twice in one post. (Wheelsif you are reading this, fuck you, you racist, baldy motherfucker).

Sometimes it can be tit for tat, if the klan go running to MF (which I bet theydo, often) Isometimes do as well just to try and acheive some kind of balance about what is acceptable. I have to keep an eye out, because while MF is watching me like a hawk Mill, 66GTO etc are trolling about doing backflips and he doesn't even notice, if he ain't gonna watch them somebody has to.

Has anyone seen the cunt millivanilli's new icon? "Professional Troll Killer" I think the term 'cunt' is even too little for this mouthy bitch. Let her rest among her admirers...all two of them.
