I have to agree with you about trusting medical professionals anymore. My brothers doctor's at MD Anderson were first rate and did an amazing job. The neurosurgeon at Emory is a hack. He is an arrogant prick. If I could prove he caused nerve damage during surgery I would sue the shit out of him. Emory is the worst medical institution I have ever dealt with.

It's not that I don't trust doctors and nurses its the nosocomial (took me a year to learn how to pronounce it) infections. Those little gazillions of critters that hang out in hospitals. This guy who inspects hospitals once told me they really try hard (most of the time) but infection control is so difficult in those massive structures filled with sick people. ...think of how many people you've ever heard of that went into hospitals for various reasons and then acquired "an infection"... My buddy told me "it was America's dirty little secret". But its a catch 22 cause if you tell the general public too much they won't want to go into hospitals when they need to.

They pay people to not tell. It doesn't hit the news so other people never know. Hospitals like Emory are supposed to be among the best in the region. If people knew what really went on in there, they would beg to go somewhere else.

Texas
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Arlington are investigating the deaths of two 4-year-old twin boys who drowned on Tuesday night in a backyard swimming pool.

Rescue crews were called to the 3200 block of Hunter Cove Drive in southwest Arlington shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday night, said Arlington Police Department spokesperson Tiara Richard. “Early details are that this looks like an accidental drowning involving two young boys,” Richard said. “Both were driven by ambulance to Medical Center of Arlington where they were pronounced dead.”

The victims were identified as Luke and Mark Nguyen of Grand Prairie.

Police investigators were on scene into the early morning hours on Wednesday. Richard later said that the father found his two boys floating in the water and pulled them out of the pool. The father and his twins were visiting family members at the house.

This is completely sad and messed up:

An 8-year-old girl was killed Wednesday evening when part of a tractor-trailer flew across I-20 and crashed through the windshield of an SUV near downtown Atlanta, the Georgia State Patrol said.

The driver of a tractor-trailer was eastbound near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive when parts of the truck's transmission came off and went over the median, striking a Chevrolet Blazer traveling westbound, according Gordy Wright with GSP.

The debris went through the windshield, struck the driver on the arm, and then struck and killed her daughter, Cameron Mcilwain, 8, of Decatur, Wright said. Cameron was in the backseat.

An 8-year-old boy was killed and his mother lost her arm in a horrific car accident, after the engine of a tractor-trailer careered across a busy highway and into their SUV.

Engine parts fell off an oncoming semitrailer and crashed through the windshield of their SUV near downtown Atlanta, authorities said.

the debris passed on through the SUV, killing her son, Cameron McIlwain, who was in the back seat.

The trucking company involved in a wreck that killed an 8-year-old Decatur boy and severely injured his mother Wednesday has been flagged by federal transportation officials for a history of unsafe practices.

CW Transport LLC, a small trash-hauling fleet based in Atlanta, has so many vehicle maintenance violations that it ranks among the worst 6 percent of companies its size across the country, federal records show. Seventeen of 18 vehicle inspections performed during the past two years uncovered violations; six of those inspections resulted in trucks being taken off the road.

i posted somewhere around here about neuman's conviction, but can't remember where/find it. duh. 22

Atlanta Journal-Constitution

A DeKalb County grand jury has subpoenaed Channel 2 Action News for the entirety of Andrea Sneiderman's testimony given during the recent trial of her husband's killer, signaling criminal charges against the victim's widow could be imminent.

Following his successful prosecution of Hemy Neuman -- sentenced to life in prison for the fatal shooting of Rusty Sneiderman outside a Dunwoody day care -- DeKalb District Attorney Robert James told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution he had "strong beliefs" the businessman's widow was involved in her husband's death.

"It is something we have under review right now," James said in a post-trial press conference March 15. "Stay tuned."

Channel 2 said it would comply with the subpoena.

The subpoena by the grand jury -- convened to determine whether a criminal indictment is warranted -- reinforces the importance of the nearly two days of testimony from Andrea Sneiderman, who denied allegations she was romantically involved with Neuman, her former supervisor at GE Energy.

"There were things she said on the stand ... it was the first time she had ever said those things," said DeKalb Chief Deputy District Attorney Don Geary.

For instance, prosecutors now know when the woman first learned her husband had been shot.

According to the widow's testimony, the news was broken to her by an emergency room doctor at Atlanta Medical Center the day of the shooting, Nov. 18, 2010. The mother of two said she went the hospital, accompanied by her parents, after she had gone to the shooting scene, Dunwoody Prep, and to the home she shared with Rusty.

The significance of that disclosure surfaced later in the trial when the widow's former best friend Shayna Citron and father-in-law Don Sneiderman testified that Andrea called and told them Rusty had been shot -- before she had arrived at the hospital.

Her attorney at the time, Seth Kirschenbaum, said his client testified to "help the prosecution" secure a guilty verdict against Neuman. Andrea Sneiderman has denied any involvement in her husband's shooting.

"Mrs. Sneiderman knew she was going to get beaten up on the witness stand," Kirschenbaum told the AJC in a late February interview.

Andrea Sneiderman's new attorney, Jennifer Little, declined comment on the latest developments.

Prosecutors also are tight-lipped, though they made it clear following the trial that the widow might face charges.

"When Mr. Geary and I walk into a courtroom with a case, he and I are satisfied that we have a good shot at proving that case beyond a reasonable doubt," James said.

Neuman's attorneys told the AJC last month they believe the district attorney should seek Andrea Sneiderman's indictment.

"I believe she needs to be prosecuted for murder," defense lawyer Doug Peters said. "It's documented and supported by the evidence."

Rusty Sneiderman's family has also indicated they suspect their daughter-in-law knew more than she told them about her husband's death.

"She knew. She knew in advance. She knew then what was going on," Don Sneiderman told the AJC. "How she knew or what she knew, I don't know."

Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Andrea Sneiderman, widow of slain Dunwoody businessman Rusty Sneiderman, was taken into custody Thursday morning.

She was escorted out of a lake home in Eatonton around 10:45 a.m. by Putnam County sheriff's deputies. She was taken to the DeKalb County jail.

A DeKalb County grand jury returned an indictment Thursday on charges of malice murder, attempted murder, racketeering, insurance fraud, two counts of perjury and two counts of false statements, an official familiar with the indictment told the AJC.

DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James has scheduled a 1 p.m. press conference to discuss the case. The AJC is seeking comment from Sneiderman's attorneys.

The development comes a little less than five months after Sneiderman's former boss, Hemy Neuman, was found guilty but mentally ill after acknowledging he shot Rusty Sneiderman multiple times at point blank range in November 2010 after Sneiderman dropped his child off at a Dunwoody day-care center.

Neuman is currently serving a term of life without parole at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Center in Jackson.

Andrea Sneiderman, in a wrongful death lawsuit filed on June 18 against Neuman, formally denied being his co-conspirator. According to the suit, "Neuman, acting alone, killed Rusty Sneiderman." She has also denied allegations of an affair with Neuman.

Sneiderman's arrest comes a little less than five months after her former boss at GE Energy, Hemy Neuman -- who acknowledged fatally shooting Rusty Sneiderman -- was found guilty but mentally ill by a DeKalb County jury. He's currently serving a term of life in prison without parole at the Diagnostic and Classification Center in Jackson.

DeKalb District Attorney Robert James outlined the charges in an early afternoon press conference. He said the grand jury took about an hour before returning a "true bill" on the charges: malice murder, attempted murder, insurance fraud, racketeering and two counts of perjury and false statements.

James said he was "confident in the case and evidence" and that prosecutors would use "the same formula that worked last time," referencing Neuman's conviction.

He said Sneiderman's children were not present when she was arrested Thursday morning.

Andrea Sneiderman's attorneys said they had no advance knowledge of Thursday's arrest, adding they had asked James two months ago to allow them to hand their client over if charges were brought.

"We were as surprised as anyone else," said J. Tom Morgan, who formerly served as DeKalb's D.A., during which time he hired Robert James.

I.DO.NOT.BELIEVE.THIS!!

Sneiderman was granted a $500,000 bond Tuesday by DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Gregory A. Adams. She must post $250,000 in cash. The judge also ordered that if Sneiderman is released on bond, she must wear an ankle monitor and remain under house arrest at her parents' home in Roswell.

bitch is out.
Andrea Sneiderman walked out of the DeKalb County jail Thursday, two days after a DeKalb County judge granted her bail on murder charges.
