September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
#1
Just today I lost two of my ALL kids, and a DIPG kid on deck..so to speak. And the month just started.

This is childhood cancer awareness month. Not nearly as "cool" as wearing the pink. Not nearly as known. Not enough research or funding for the cure. Some treatment protocols are 40 yrs old!

It may not matter to you, personally, today...but there is still tomorrow. Don't wait til I have to come to your child's hospital room to become a part of a team who permeate the last months of your child's life. If you give to charities, please consider giving to organizations who fund research for childhood cancer.

For Bo, Sarah, Lindsey, Riley, Delaney, Spencer, Emma, Ella, Lauren, and the ever beautiful and amazing Morgan.

St Jude's is an amazing place. They make things happen that wouldn't somewhere else. But donations there go towards treatment. More research needs to happen to get closer to the cure. Only about 2% of ACS funding is earmarked for children's cancer research. Relay 4 Life is a great organization, but so much is eaten by admin and advo that kids again take back row. CureSearch is one that funnels over 90% of donations directly to kids cancer research. A lot of the parents I work with have the highest praise for them. Always double check and do research, of course! And never second guess a donation to St Jude's because they treat and give so much, but whats needed is advancements in treatments. A cure!

I hate to be all morose and clinical but this is so close to me. Every time I get a new file I want to die a little. These kids are so brave and go through things that would break us grown ups. I just want to heighten awareness that this area of research is severely lacking.

Also I'm about 34 hours with no sleep and am scheduled to head out in about an hour for my DIPG kiddo. It could be another very long night. Forgive me if I ramble or sound just this side of nucking futs.

I just made a donation to them in honor of "Fibo Prima". Smiley_emoticons_smile Thanks for the heads up and all the work you do. It's really amazing.

Thank you for your donation! Your contribution to CureSearch for Children’s Cancer will ensure that children diagnosed with cancer can have access to the best treatment options.

Your generous donation supports CureSearch for Children's Cancer, a national non-profit foundation whose mission is to fund and support children's cancer research and provide information and resources to all those affected by children's cancer. CureSearch raises funds for collaborative research conducted at more than 175 hospitals across the nation. These hospitals participate in National Cancer Institute sponsored clinical trials conducted by the Children's Oncology Group. In the last 40 years, collaborative research has increased the overall survival rate for children’s cancer from 10% to 78%. At CureSearch, our goal is 100%.

We thank you for joining the fight to cure children's cancer.

I might have teared up just a teeny bit. It could have been the onion I was (not) peeling.

Thank you so much for doing that! These kids are beyond incredible. They push through things we probably couldn't manage and they get right back to being kids. Their spirit is amazing. They don't wallow in self pity when I'm sure I would. I would love to see the day when what they endure ensures a long life for them..to see what breathtaking adults they become. I'm so honored to know them all.

Again, thank you! I made you a macaroni halo but the paint is still wet. Smiley_emoticons_smile

Its a worthy cause--much more worthwhile than those fuckers that come around trying to sell me magazines so they can (yeah, right) go to college.

Same here LC. That's one of the FEW Charitys I don't second guess at where my money is going and how it's being spent.
Been giving to them for almost 20 years now.
Rileys Children Hospital and Ronald McDonald House in Indianapolis are also good Charitys.
