They had been out in record numbers to make sure that everyone had a good time at this year's Notting Hill Carnival and as one police officer showed, the success of the day really was something to dance about.

Crowds had gathered at one sound system in West London to enjoy the music and dance as two Metropolitan officers in their high-visibility jackets looked on.

He was captured on cameraphone busting a move and the footage has since gone viral across the Internet.

The moves appear to be inspired by 'skanking' a dance style associated with the ska, punk and reggae scenes.

After about a minute of shuffling and shaking, the portly officer returns to his solemn post as the delighted crowd carry on enjoying themselves.

The officer who found worldwide fame for his dancing at the Notting Hill Carnival is 50-year-old Simon Lawrence.

His impromptu dance routine at the Notting Hill Carnival earned him the nickname ‘the Skanking Policeman’ after it was seen more than 200,000 times on YouTube. ‘My dance has become known as the Babylon Skank because West Indians often use the term Babylon for the police.

Speaking of Skanks, I had a dream about Paris Hilton last night. It was horrible. She was like famous and like living in my town and I was saying to myself, what was I thinking living in the same town as this? it was toxic and horrible. I think she was DJ at a nightclub. Whatever it was, it was not good.
