So..now Christmas is coming.
#21
this was a crappy thing to put up where little kids can see it.
let them have their innocent Christmas happiness. Santaani it's gone soon enough.

A Christmas display outside the courthouse in Leesburg, VA featuring Santa Claus crucified on a cross was torn down by an angry resident in spite of arguments by elected leaders that the display was Constitutionally-protected free speech.

“I am shocked that the county would allow such a thing as a crucified Santa on the courthouse lawn,” Elizabeth McGuirk, a mother of three told Leesburg Today. She it would “seriously disturb my children.”

“Disgusting, outrageous and absurd,” Supervisor-elect Ken Reid told MyFoxDC.com. “This fellow crossed the line. I’m worried about kids seeing this at the parade Saturday.

The display was erected by Jeff Heflin, whose application was submitted and approved by the Loudon County Board of Supervisors.

A board actually approved that? They must have to put a description or something on the application, don't they?

He has every right to put up that display. Are people only allowed to display what the majority are comfortable with? Fuck no. That's just too fuckin' bad if no one approves and it makes me want to come to all your 'hoods and do the same goddamn thing just to bother you...and then I can get a laugh out of the outrage.

I'll defend anyone's right to what is basically free speech. Everyone insists they want it until they hear/see things they don't approve of, that's bullshit.

In his own yard, on his own personnel property, he can display any damn thing he wants.

As for public property presided over by elected officials. The public has a right to be offended at something they have to walk by every day.

Why do you have more rights than he does?

Why do you assume that is what I am saying?

I did not say the 'concerned citizen' had a right to tear the 'lovely piece of art' down. My original post questioned whether the board knew what they were approving was going to be a skeleton dressed up in a Santa suit and tied to a cross.

Now, on to your second statement. I have read on here (Mostly from Cracker) your rights end where mine begin. If you have the right to be rude, crude, and unimaginative on public property, than I have the right to stand there and heckle you, or go complain to my elected official and say 'what the fuck were you thinking?'-Now I have to go explain to my kids that Santa starved to death because Mrs Clause ran off with Frosty.

Santa Claus cuddles 1-month-old Corleon Hunter of Detroit during a visit Tuesday to DMC Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit, where the infant is a patient. Santa is on a cross-country tour as part of Macy's Make-a-Wish campaign.

i WAS pleased with Macy's for post #28. 52

Santa is certainly going to add a Portland-area Macy’s to his 'naughty' list.

The downtown Portland department store has decided to forego years of tradition, booting out truly old Saint Nicks who have been posing as Kris Kringle for decades in favor of agency Santas with fake beards.

The new Father Christmases come from a national vendor instead of the much beloved community Santas, and families who have been coming to get their holiday photos with the same Santas are livid.

Yup, although I'm not considered "in the South". I've gotten mistletoe many holiday seasons by doing that. There is a plethora of it here growing in the tree tops, balls and balls of it.
