I don't smoke it, but my husband does. He doesn't sit there and blow it in their face, but he doesn't hide in the closet either. I think it only becomes a big deal if you turn it into one.

I agree Sally. I don't smoke it anymore but if I did I would not hide it. I would not want my son hiding things from me.So, therefore, I wouldn't lie or hide it from him. I want to be approachable so my son feels comfortable telling me things.

Jesus, people. Don't give kids a bigger burden by making them hide stuff. In the same vein, don't give them any ammo, either.

I didn't even drink in front of my kids until they were in high school. I wait until they leave or go to bed. They can't say their mom is a drunk if they get in trouble for failing French. Cracker isn't a tard.

My ex drinks and smokes in front of his kids (new family) and the oldest two started drinking and drugging and humping in 6^th grade. A neighbor boy almost died (OD'd) at their house around Thanksgiving and they had to call the ambulance. The other set of parents buy booze for him, too, so they weren't surprised or mad. I want to bitch slap them all.

Lie. It is a favor. When they are grown, you can come clean. Until then, you can be sued for what they do.

Being lied to didn't hurt my grown kids. They still call every day to check in or ask stuff. I'm pretty sure they call me the "Money Fairy", but other than that, it's all good.

I don't think smoking a joint is anymore of a big deal than drinking a glass of wine. I just told my kids the truth... it's not good for your growing body or mind and it can get you into a lot trouble, but when you're a responsible adult who works hard all day and wants to do it in the privacy of your own home then the decision shall be yours. So far, so good. I have a 14 and 18 year old and they haven't turned into junkies yet.

I get the foil drink packs in my yard. I don't buy them, so I know the neighborhood kids are having a field day while I am working. I stopped edging because I am passive/aggressive and I refuse to edge if you let your kids throw trash in my yard. Fuck that.

I fucked up their cut-through last weekend and I refresh the pebbles at the end of the drive once a month so they get road rash if they ride their skateboards in my driveway.

Fucking rednecks. Better than ghetto, though. I might be a cunt later in the year and report all the boats in the backyards to the country marshalls (against the covenant) and make the fuckers pay for storage. haha

I lie, big time. I once made the mistake of telling my kids I "tried pot once when I was 17" or something and they looked at me like I'd sprouted horns and immediately called me a stoner.

Truth is, I tried pot (and much more) way earlier than that. I'm glad I didn't share more than I did.

My kids are square, square, square (right now). I don't think pot is any worse than drinking (except for the fact that it's still illegal) but I try to project a pretty straight laced image to them while still keeping the lines of communication open (being well informed and letting them know they can talk to me about anything without fear of reprisals or judgment...within reason).

I'm sure they'll eventually drink and probably try pot but I'm hoping to delay that as long as I can.

I remember getting caught smoking a cigarette when I was in 8^th grade and my dad (a smoker) had the nerve to lecture me about it while smoking a god damn cigarette. I don't care that he was the adult...my brain screamed HYPOCRITE!
