get some celery, onions, carrots and put them in with the hambone. soak the beans overnight. drain them. any dried beans are good. let all that simmer for hours. homemade soup is a meal!
i do greens (kale) and linguica too.

I can't get into the runny eggs, but I love grits. Except when people put sugar in them, gross.

As far as I know, I've never tried hominy, grits or blackeyed peas. There are no black restaurants where I live although we can get great Mexican food.
