Francesco Schettino, captain of the stricken cruise ship Concordia, is ordered under house arrest as recordings reveal he fled the ship before all passengers and crew were evacuated — an act one American maritime official called a 'mortal sin.'

I'm pretty sure Dick would use his muscled frame to knock me on my ass to get his spot on a lifeboat.

I would save you, and then I would make you feel like shit for doubting me.

An Earth-watching satellite has snapped a stark view of the Costa Concordia shipwreck from space, showing the huge ocean liner on its side just days after it tragically ran aground off Italy's Tuscany coast.

The new satellite photo was taken Tuesday (Jan. 17) by an Earth-observation satellite operated by DigitalGlobe, a Colorado-based company that uses a constellation of spacecraft to take high-resolution images of Earth.

Pictures like that really put the immense size of these boats into perspective.

How can you fuck with that many people's lives so carelessly? I don't understand this tragedy at all.

Did they recover everybody? I guess I mean every body.

status as of today, thursday, Cracker:

Giglio, Italy (CNN) -- Italian authorities are considering when to call off the search for survivors aboard the wreck of the cruise liner Costa Concordia, the coast guard said Thursday, as rescuers used explosives to blow new holes in the ship in search of victims.

Authorities are mulling when to change the operation from rescue to recovery, coast guard spokesman Cosimo Nicastro said Thursday. Divers continued their search of the wreck into Thursday evening.

At least 11 people are known to have died in the disaster, and 21 are still missing, according to the Italian Crisis Unit.

and now it's going to become a sleazy soap opera.

Capt. Francesco Schettino was reportedly seen dining with woman believed to be Domnica Cemortan — who may have been on board the ship illegally — shortly before the Costa Concordia crashed off the Italian coast.

The officer's order, "Get back on board, (expletive!)" has entered the Italian lexicon, becoming a Twitter hashtag and adorning T-shirts.

I heard about this yesterday. Anybody know what expletive he used? I hope it was "YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE"! Whatever it was, it was well deserved.

I can't be sure, but it looks like those are lifeboats there, on the side of the boat. As the "captain" he should have done everything in his power to remove those lifeboats. I suppose we can just add that to the list of things he "should have done". What a joke. I hope they stone him.
Just shut up. Just shut the fuck up right now.

Search teams have found eight more bodies in the wreck of the cruise ship Costa Concordia today.

The body of a five-year-old girl, believed to be Dyana Arlotti, is among those which have been recovered. :(

Officials say 32 people died in the disaster but so far only 17 bodies had been retrieved before the new announcement.
