Damn! I was hoping to wake up to some good news. I am hoping the girls are alive and LE is closing in on Mayes. Wishful thinking...I guess.

The girls are probably still alive, but this guy is pretty good at evading capture.

Authorities on Thursday continued their search for two kidnapped Tennessee girls and the man accused of abducting them and killing their mother and sister.

A day earlier, the FBI put the suspect, Adam Mayes, on its list of 10 most wanted fugitives and added $100,000 to the reward fund offered for a break in the case. Mayes has been charged in the killing of Jo Ann Bain and her eldest daughter, Adrienne, in April, but authorities suspect he is still holding Bain's younger daughters, Alexandria, 12, and Kyliyah, 8.

"From an investigative standpoint, we keenly and firmly believe that Adam Mayes is out here somewhere with these two young children," said Mark Gwyn, director of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. "And it's going to be up to the public to help us if we're to bring these children back home and place him in custody where he needs to be."

The search is concentrated around Guntown, Mississippi, where the bodies of the mother and daughter were found over the weekend.

"We are moving forward with our investigation to hunt down Adam Mayes and rescue those two little girls," Aaron Ford, the special agent in charge of the FBI's Memphis office, told reporters Wednesday. He urged Mayes to leave the girls in a "safe location," such as a police station, church or hospital, "and then peacefully and safely turn yourself in."

The federal reward brings the total amount of money offered for information leading to Mayes' arrest to $175,000, Ford said. Mayes' wife, Teresa Mayes, and his mother, Mary Frances Mayes, are in custody, but Mayes continues to evade a small army of 17 law enforcement agencies and hundreds of searchers.

The two young sisters were the targets of a kidnapping plot that involved the killing of their mother and older sister, a Tennessee court document says.

Adam and Teresa Mayes each have been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of especially aggravated kidnapping. Adam Mayes faces an additional count of making a false report, according to arrest affidavits filed in Tennessee. In an interview with police, Teresa Mayes said her husband intended to take Alexandria and Kyliyah from their home in Hardeman County, near Memphis.

Police said she told them she was in the Bains' garage where Adam Mayes killed Jo Ann and Adrienne Bain.

Details about the time or cause of death haven't been released. But in the affidavits, investigators said Adam and Teresa Mayes drove the bodies to Union County in northern Mississippi, where they were discovered Saturday in a shallow grave behind the house of Adam Mayes' mother in Guntown.

The mother, Mary Frances Mayes, has been charged with four counts of conspiracy to commit especially aggravated kidnapping.

Authorities describe Mayes as a white man with blue eyes and brown hair. He weighs 175 pounds and is 6 feet 3 inches tall. He recently cut his hair and may have done the same to the missing girls.

In security camera video shot April 30 at a convenience store near his home, Mayes is seen with short hair and a goatee. Nick Bargouthi, the clerk seen in the video, told HLN's "Issues With Jane Velez-Mitchell" that Mayes was a frequent customer.

"He walked in, went in and bought a Coke," Bargouthi said. "I noticed he cut his hair, got rid of his pony(tail). When I asked him, he said, 'Yeah, it was too hot.' But he kept all his facials on. And then he walked out."

He was last seen May 1 in Guntown. While the search is centered around his hometown, he also has connections to Arizona, Texas, Florida and the Carolinas, the FBI said.

Teresa Mayes' attorney Shana Johnson, said her client is cooperating with police but would not say whether she knows the whereabouts of Adam Mayes or the girls. The Mayes family and the Bain family are connected through Adam Mayes' sister Pamela, who used to be married to Jo Ann's husband, Gary Bain, the lawyer said.

Adam and Teresa Mayes have been married for 11 years and lived in Guntown, she said. Johnson said she has asked for a mental health evaluation of her client.

Bobbi Booth, Teresa Mayes' sister, spoke to CNN's Anderson Cooper on Tuesday about Adam Mayes and his relationship with her sister, who she said has mental health problems.

"I've known Adam for at least 25 years, and he's always been weird and unusual ... but I never dreamed he would do something like this," she said.

She described him as aggressive and not trustworthy. He beat and threatened to kill her sister, said Booth, who pleaded with him to "do the right thing."

"Just let the children go. This has gone on way too far, and we need to figure out what's going on, and it's not fair to the children," she said.

Authorities tried to interview Mayes soon after Gary Bain reported his wife and the girls missing April 27 in Whiteville, a western Tennessee town of 4,600 people. However, Mayes fled, officials said.

Mayes may be using the alias of Christopher Zachery Wylde or Paco Rodrigass, his Facebook profile name, according to the bureau.

Ellen Fulghum, a guidance counselor at the high school Adrienne Bain attended, told HLN there was "a dark cloud" over the school and community.

"It's just a heaviness. Our hearts are heavy," she said.

"It's one of those situations where, as adults there's no way we can wrap our minds around something like this," Fulghum added. "It's very hard to help children through a grieving process when it is something of this nature."

Where was Gary Bain when Mayes killed his wife and step daughter in the garage? Why has he not pleaded with Mayes to let the girls go? Any thoughts?

5:29 p.m. - From The Associated Press - Adam Mayes' mother-in-law told The Associated Press he thought he might be the girls' father and it caused trouble in the marriage to her daughter, who's jailed in the case.

"She was tired of him doting on those two little girls that he claimed were his," Josie Tate said in an exclusive phone interview with The Associated Press on Wednesday. In an earlier interview, Tate's daughter Bobbi Booth said Teresa Mayes suspected her husband was having an affair with Jo Ann Bain.

Authorities refused to comment on the motive for the April 27 slayings and abductions at a Wednesday news conference.

I'm confused. If Mayes's wife was tired of him doting on the two youngest girls, why would she want to help him kidnap them? It seems like it would have been to her advantage to have the Bain family move to Arizona rather than Mayes end up with the children.

And why still no info on what car Mayes might be driving? I guess all cars he had access to must be accounted for and there haven't been any stolen vehicles reported. So either Mayes must still be around, some other scumbag gave him a vehicle (Mayes seems to have plenty in his own family and among friends, or he and the girls hitched a ride out of there

I wonder how much money he had access to when he left. I wouldn't think much.

Hi LadyCop . . . excellent follow-up and instinct.

Please comment on . . .

(1) Jo Ann was like 19 when she was married (and pregnant?)
(2) It was reported Adam and Jo Ann had an "affair" (dating?) before she married
(3) The two young girls look a lot alike
(4) Adam spent more time at Jo Ann's house than with his wife
(5) Adam was looking for Viagra before visiting Jo Ann
(6) Best place to rendezvous at night is that nice garage
(7) Would be believable for Adam to either want Jo Ann to run away with him or Adam to want to relocate to Arizona to be with his kids (in either case Adam's wife loses out)
(8) That weekend was the big decider . . . and Adam's wife knew it
(9) The stranger at the Bain's household was Adam's wife (not Adam)
(10) Adam had a long history of being protective and supportive of the children (and Jo Ann)

Could Adam's wife have surprised Adam and Jo Ann experimenting with some of that "viagra"? - Pants down, surprised, trying to be quiet . . . they would make easy targets for Teresa . . . who would have been emotionally upset . . . not stable . . . the anger, built up over time . . . and a short 2x4 . . . as he falls backward . . . she swings at Jo Ann . . . The older girl heard Teresa approach and may just happened to be checking on the lights . . . sees Teresa attacking her mom and runs . . . Adam catches her, they fall, he puts his hand over her mouth to quiet her . . . she has asthma . . . he returns her to the garage, where her mom is dying . . . she can't breath . . . he hands her to Teresa, so he can attend to Jo Ann and Teresa unintentionally finishes the limp 14 yr old off . . . In the mean time Jo Ann is unconscious . . . so he places them in the Tahoe and Adam retrieves HIS 2 kids and places them in the car with Teresa . . . they drive a few miles and he drops off the Tahoe, moving the bodies to the OLDs (trunk?) . . . except they aren't bodies quite yet (but the confines of the trunks finishes them off)

When they get home . . . they are bodies . . . Adam is really angry at Teresa . . . threatening her . . . and runs off to protect the only thing he has left . . . his two kids.

Have a hunch . . . if the FBI plays the "ADAM is a VICTIM" too card . . . he might release the kids and give up.

Question: Is Teresa as innocent as she/others are making her out to be?

Thank you!

Innocent? Isn't she in the slammer for being involved in this?

Innocent? Isn't she in the slammer for being involved in this?

Sorta . . . Seems like the following;
(1) She was there
(2) She was a silent bystander
(3) She was controlled by her husband
(4) She did not know what she was a part of

So . . . they put her in jail

When Really
(1) She had the best motive (multiple motives . . . jealousy, anger, household disruption . . . )
(2) She had opportunity
(3) She WAS the surprise arrival
(4) While Adam had it made . . . a hot affair, two cute kids, somebody else paying . . . Have a hunch Adam would have dropped his wife in a heartbeat and moved to Tuscon . . . he really had nothing keeping him

Adding
(1) He surely did not look guilty buying that coke (had cleaned up his act)
(2) His wife Teresa, by her sister's accounts, is a real mess

It is always hard to rationalize the irrational . . . so my slow and weak mind likes to so with the flow . . . and the flow tells me the one with the real motive here may have been the one triggering this disaster . . . so, even giving this guy a pass, just to get the kids back seems like an okay scenario.
