What if there was a graduation and nobody came and they all just picked up their diploma in the office?

Whose graduation would it be then?

So much for the solemn event.

Graduation has nothing to do with the school? hahahahaha Fucking tard.

If the parents don't mind sitting through a longer ceremony, I think they ought to let people cheer and bring the next student forward when the cheering subsides. But, depending on the size of the school, nobody should bitch if the commencement takes an extra hour or more.

300-500 students times 5 minutes each. You do the math.

The worst people get up after their child's name is called instead of sitting through the entire ceremony. That's klassy, too.

Graduation has nothing to do with the school, I was there because that is where I lived just like these kids were at that school because of where they lived.

Graduating is up to the kid not the school.

Graduation belongs to the students.

I find it funny that you have such a big problem with that, from now on I don't want to hear about your education just tell us about the school, they own your education and your diplomas.

Graduation is for the graduating CLASS. They celebrate at the end when they throw their caps in the air. It is the last time they will all be together as a group. The school conducts the graduation. It is their show.

Parents acting like it is a personal celebration are without class.

If you don't get it, you just don't get it.

I don't know where you grew up, but our graduating class was out of school a week before the ceremony was held.

It was up to the seniors to plan out graduation, put up the decorations, set the stage up,run the wires for the sound system, make the arches, and buy our own tassels.

Graduation belongs to the students, it is held on school property which unless it's a private school belongs to the parents and community.

Fuck all the rules, it's not a crime to cheer for your kid during graduation.

Like I said I don't want to hear about your personal achievement, that shit all belongs to the school.

The bigger the school the less you can allow cheering unless you want the event to last for fucking ever.

Maybe some of those bitching attended small schools?

Maybe some people can control themselves in public. Especially at a ceremony honoring more than one child. Maybe some people know the appropriate time to celebrate without bothering or interfering with other children and other families. It doesn't matter if it is a big school or a small school.

Wait until you get stuck in the stands with some asshole blowing an air horn two seats up. You will wish they would have just made a sign or brought balloons to release.

Common courtesy and politeness is dead in America. I don't excuse anyone from the expected behavior, I just stay the fuck away from you if you don't know what that is.

I'm shocked more parents don't set a better example for their children. Well, not really. It answers a lot of questions.

I was in a class of more than 500 seniors.

But we graduated while this was still a free country.

I graduated from a small school but we were also asked not to hoot and holler. 34 of the parents were respectful of their wishes.

It can't be racist to me, to begin with I would accept it so it would still be its own and to end with I don't care what it thinks.

IMO the school is out of line not the parent.

Notworthy
Although I agree that you should do as asked. I also feel that it wasn't a crime to be arrested over.

those kids earned their diplomas. i don't think they should be punished for the moms' behavior.

my son's graduation was at the HUGE Ocean Center, which meant lots of noise, it was all good. but i also have to say, if we as parents had been asked to hold all applause, i would have honored that.

other kids cheer their friends too. it's natural.

I think I graduated with around 300 kids. As I recall, they just called off the names (with almost no pause in between) and it was one long, continuous roar. I think the parents could still hear because they used a microphone.

My take on it is, I don't give a fuck. I like the idea of being able to cheer the kids but if there was a request to be silent, I wouldn't be the one making a spectacle out of myself cheering. I think some people think it should be a solemn event but I agree with Dick that for the kids, it's probably more fun to have it be more celebratory.

Niggerdom 211: High school is the end of your education. It is to be celebrated as loudly as possible.

I don't expect you to see through the haze of your ignorance, lack of consideration for others, and lack of decorum. So don't worry about it. Get yours. Do you.

Screaming and yelling like a fucking idiot isn't for a child. The child is in front of the crowd in a cap and gown having their name called and walking across a stage. Yelling like an idiot is a way for the parents to get attention. Needy, rude mutherfuckers.
