Dinner this evening: Summer Risotto
#21

I have very firm ideas on how welfare bucks/food stamps should be used & scallops is not on the list of what is acceptable.

You should use your crockpot more. I do if I know I'm going to be tired.

Just don't do the recipes that use cream soups, it will make you fat.

I have WTF moments when I'm standing in line with my measly pound of burger or whatever and I see someone buying seafood or expensive cuts of meat with food stamps. RAWR!

I have been up since 5.30am and there was snow on the mountain today. Couldn't take a pic for Maggot, didn't have time, it was too dark when I left anyway. 8 hours in the psych ward I am spent. Organising a crock pot on top of all that would be tricky. I think that stuff is harder in winter.

i'm repelled. likely his mother's food stamps. why would he be eligible?

Contemptible attitude of entitlement.

I never know who uses food stamps (most of the time) because Georgia has those benefit cards. But I do know they bust gas stations around here all the time for selling cigs and beer to people with those cards.

From Georgia's site:

Soft drinks, candy, cookies, snack crackers, and ice cream are food items and are therefore eligible items
Seafood, steak, and bakery cakes are also food items and are therefore eligible items
Energy drinks that have a nutrition facts label are eligible foods

Since the current definition of food is a specific part of the Act, any change to this definition would require action by a member of Congress. Several times in the history of SNAP, Congress had considered placing limits on the types of food that could be purchased with program benefits. However, they concluded that designating foods as luxury or non-nutritious would be administratively costly and burdensome.

Why poach the scallops, Ma? I don't think I've ever had poached scallops...

That was the first time I'd ever poached scallops before. Usually I broil them or fry them up, but it took a little longer for them to cook (about the same time as the risotto), and they were so tender and fluffy we loved them. Plus no extra oil or butter is used in the cooking. They were quite tasty.

Thats how it was last night. It's been in the 90's here the last three or four days and she's come home exhausted. She had to work late late last night so I had it ready for her when she walked through the door. Made her quite happy. We usually cook together, but it was an extra long day for her so I took the lead.

It will come as no surprise to anyone that I have never made "real" rice. Boil a couple cups of water, add a couple cups of rice. *poof* Rice!

I'm also curious about that, Clang. We had an able bodied guy working for us once that had four kids who he did not support and he was getting $200 per month in food stamps just for himself. How the fuck does that work? I really want to know, maybe I should go apply for them.

Relax, I was joking. I use my food stamps to help buy groceries for me, my mom, dad and my other unemployed brother and we just went food shopping today and scallops was not on the list. Bought peanut butter and jelly and other sensible food items.

JSYK I don't need food stamps to eat better than you guys. A friend of my mom bought my parents 4 NY Strip steak for their 42nd wedding anniversary.

Nope, they're my food stamps.

I basically told them I buy my own food and prepare my own food, my mom's house was my shelter and she was my landlord, I pay my own way and VOILA!...$200 in food stamps each month.(Basically I exaggerated and fudged some stuff)

(Also recieving Medicaid tooBlowing-kisses)

Since you haven't thanked those of us who support your ass, you're welcome.

Also, way to game the system and admitting lying to get more benefit. You're a real model citizen.

Character counts for something. Find some - it might help you have a little more self esteem.

It would also be nice to see a little humility for the benefits you receive since you currently aren't a productive member of society... being on food stamps and medicaid isn't something that deserves exclamation points and smileys.
