Are you the type that would pull over to help those in distress?

No, I'm not. No good deed goes unpunished.

Depends on the type of distress.

If I thought I could pull them from a burning wreck or being otherwise trapped in their car, yes I would pull over. For a busted radiator, tire or something like that no.

Would you pick up a hitchhiker, Clang?

No. Unless it was a friend/relative, celebrity, or someone I knew.

It depends on the kind of distress like Clang said. I'm not the one to jump out of my car and push someones broken down vehicle out of traffic, thats more of a guy thing. I did pull my car over once to help a lady get her dog out of the middle of the street and I drove an old lady home from the grocery store because she was outside asking people for a ride and I've seen her walking around the neighborhood before.

Depends on the situation. If I know them, yes. But these days everyone has a cell phone and can call for roadside assistance.

I would never pick up a hitch hiker.

I will respond based on the need, the circumstances, and my responsibilities to whomever is in the vehicle with me. If I'm alone and my help may be needed I'll stop. If I have kids and/or clients I'll call for assistance if it hasn't already arrived. If the road conditions are dangerous I may see what I can do for safety etc. Really depends on what is needed for the situation.

If I had my kids with me, most likely not.

If I was by myself and I had the chance to help, I probably would. I've had people stop to help me in the past.

Yep, I am, although I've grown wary of situations that could be set-ups, you know, like the classic car break-down in the middle of nowhere at 11pm and stuff like that.
As for hitchhikers, I've lived in the same area for decades, so I kind of know those who hitch-hike regularly and won't hesitate to pick them up. Same with women, known to me or not - when I find them walking alone after dark or in deserted areas, I usually stop to ask if they need a ride. Been in that kind of situation myself too many times to not do it. And if it's gonna bite me in the ass some day, then so be it.

Last time I picked up a hitchhiker, I ended up driving her all over the place; won't do that again.

Several months ago I saw a woman in a wheelchair trying to go up a driveway. Problem was she'd loaded the back of the wheelchair with a boatload of groceries so she went over like a turtle on its back. I helped her.

Another time I saw a little old lady trying to push her motorized scooter home. Helped her too.

And I'm always picking up stray dogs.

I have a thing for weak looking people and animals. I wouldn't piss on on Dono if he was on fire-he looks smart and capable enough to drop and roll.

I always try to stop if its a woman and I can get there without getting killed, could be my sister, mom, GF whatever. If its a guy and he is waving for help I stop, or try to. I have picked many folks off the side of the road. Only had to boot 1 drunk asshole, he got in, cracked a warm beer and then passed out and spilled it, I dumped him on the side of the same road I picked him up on.
Armed always, I am also 6'1" and better than 250 lbs, so I don't look like an easy target.

I did stop once for a woman who was stuck in a snowbank. She was about a half mile from her work, and it was blizzarding out. She just asked me to bring her to her job and she would call from there. This was before cell phones.

I don't help able bodied men. I might help a woman. Today everyone has a phone and help is always near. Mostly not my problem.

Sometimes when I get behind a car that broke down in the middle of the road I honk my horn, shake my fists and call them cocksuckers. I've noticed other people doing it so what the hell.

Yes.
It's instinctive. I wish I was more of the person who wouldn't, but it's difficult to change.
I do know if I'm with Liz and she's at risk I would then certainly not.

In the city yes, country no. Which makes no sense LOL because in the country a person probably needs more help than in the city. WTF. But I would stop and ask if I can call someone for them, but I recall passing someone the other night and I didn't stop, so I can't say I do that either.

I did help someone in the parking lot the other day with a dead battery. What was the question?! : P
