LAS VEGAS (AP) - Las Vegas police are making a new plea for information about a 10-year-old girl last seen with a casino card dealer now accused of using razor blades to slash a co-worker's face at a Las Vegas Strip resort.

Capt. Chris Jones told The Associated Press on Thursday that investigators hope someone knows where Jade Morris is.

The girl was last seen by her family at about 5 p.m. last Friday with 50-year-old Brenda Stokes. Stokes also uses the name Brenda Wilson.
She was supposed to have taken the girl shopping.

Stokes was arrested about 9:30 p.m. that night after allegedly attacking a female co-worker who was dealing blackjack at the Bellagio. Stokes is being held on felony charges related to the attack.

Jade Morris, Child Missing After Casino Stabbing, Found Dead

The body of 10-year-old Jade Morris was found in a Nevada desert on Thursday, according to family members.

The discovery was made by a man walking his dog near an unfinished housing development in the northern stretches of the Las Vegas Valley, Las Vegas Metro Police said.

Family members told the Black and Missing Foundation that they visually identified the remains for police, who have not yet released a statement positively identifying the body.

"We are heartbroken today. It has been confirmed by family members that the body of ... Jade Morris has been found. We pray for her family," Natalie Wilson, co-founder of the organization, told The Huffington Post.

Wilson said the family wasn't told the cause of death.

Jade was last seen Friday by family members, when she got into a red, 2007 four-door Saab with her father's fiancee, 50-year-old Brenda Stokes, also known as Brenda Wilson. Jade's father was out of town at the time.

"Jade went shopping with [Stokes] at about 4:50 p.m., but by 9 p.m. they had not returned," Morris' godmother, Ni'cola Mitchell, told HuffPost on Wednesday.

When Stokes failed to return with Jade, the little girl’s mother contacted police and reported her missing. The girl's mother then learned Stokes had been arrested at the Bellagio casino, following a violent altercation with another woman.

According to the Las Vegas Police Department, Stokes was arrested at about 10 p.m. Friday, accused of slashing the face of friend and co-worker Joyce Rhone, 44, several times with "an edged blade." Rhone was admitted to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with deep lacerations to her face, police said.
Stokes told police she would have killed Rhone if casino security had not intervened.

"Hell, yeah," Stokes told investigators, according to a police report obtained by the Las Vegas Review Journal. "I would have whooped that ass. I would have killed her. I should have killed her."

Stokes was charged with battery with a deadly weapon, battery with use of a deadly weapon with substantial bodily harm and mayhem.

Jade Morris' father interrupted Stokes first court appearance Wednesday, shouting "Where's my baby at?" A Las Vegas Justice Court bailiff ushered him out of the court proceeding.

Stokes was held at the Clark County jail. She has not been charged in connection with Jade's death.

Blood found on borrowed car in missing girl case

A prosecutor says blood was found in a car borrowed by a woman last seen with a missing 10-year-old girl and later arrested in a razor blade slashing of a co-worker at a Las Vegas Strip casino.

Police investigating the disappearance Jade Morris expect to know Friday whether her body is the one found by a person walking a dog in an undeveloped North Las Vegas housing tract.

Jade was last seen Dec. 21.

Clark County Coroner Michael Murphy says he's awaiting results of DNA testing before saying whether the body is Jade Morris.

Prosecutor Robert Daskas convinced a judge Friday to raise bail to $600,000 for Brenda Stokes.

Stokes is jailed in the slashing case and is expected to face murder and kidnapping charges in Jade Morris' disappearance.

Geez. How could the girl's parents not know Stokes was a loon?

Why on earth did she go batshit crazy on a 10 year old? Sad.

That was my first thought too; why would the parents trust a psycho like Stokes with their 10 year old in the first place? Wonder if she had any prior criminal record or demonstrated a violent/unstable streak in the past? Guess it's possible that the parents had no clue, but seems unlikely to me. Curious.

Very sad story.

It doesn't indicate whether Stokes has a criminal record, but this article states that she was off of her Xanax and went to her doctor complaining that she had urges to hurt somebody (I see a defense strategy in process; whether this information is true or not).

According to Jade's mother, Stokes was a fiancée (or ex-fiancée, hard to tell) of Jade's father. She believes that there was a love triangle between Jade's dad, Stokes, and the woman whose face was slashed by Stokes. Jade's mother indicated that Jade had a good relationship with Stokes and had gone off alone with her on special occasions in the past. Mom thinks Jade was killed by Stokes to get back at Jade's dad. Completely messed up bullshit.

AFAIK, Stokes hasn't been charged with murder yet and police are still analyzing the blood DNA found in her car and home.

RIP Jade Morris...

IDK, SC, I can't tell by a photo if she has a previous criminal record. But, I agree that Stokes-Wilson does look evil (and that could be partly because of the context in which I'm seeing her picture).

Looks like she was a blackjack dealer at the Bellagio, one of the most posh resorts on the Vegas strip. I think that Stokes-Wilson had to be relatively sharp/experienced and have passed a stringent background check to hold that position. So far, none of the many articles published indicate any criminal record.

If she has no priors, the doctor confirms that she approached him asking to be hospitalized because she had urges to hurt someone, and her lawyer can make a case that she snapped in a crime of passion, I share sharit's concern that she won't get what she deserves (should be the absolute max, in my opinion, regardless of circumstances). The fact that she sat in jail for a week and offered no assistance in locating Jade's body should help lower the chances of her getting off too easy, I hope.

The coroner officially ruled the body as Jade's last night; she died from multiple stab wounds.

Jade Morris Murder: Police Say Bloody Clothing In Brenda Stokes Apartment Links Casino Worker To 10-Year-Old's Killing

12/31/12 Via The AP
LAS VEGAS -- Las Vegas police revealed new details in the stabbing death of a young girl found just after Christmas, saying the child's blood was on clothes recovered from the apartment of a woman accused of slashing a casino dealer with razor blades.

An arrest report released Monday shows how police came to suspect Brenda Stokes in the death of 10-year-old Jade Morris, whose body was found in an undeveloped housing tract last week after being reported missing by her mother.

The girl had last been seen alive at about 5 p.m. Dec. 21, when she left with Stokes to go Christmas shopping. Stokes, 50, had been dating the child's father for about four years and the child considered the woman her stepmother, police said.

About four hours after picking the girl up, Stokes went to the Bellagio and attacked a co-worker, according to police. The woman was hospitalized with deep cuts on her face, including one from her ear to the edge of her mouth.

Stokes was wrestled to the ground at the casino with razors in each hand, police said. She was initially booked on suspicion of burglary, battery and mayhem in the casino attack.

When Jade didn't return from shopping, her mother, Tejuana Reeves-Morris, reported her missing.

After a records check, police determined Stokes was the same woman arrested Dec. 21 in the Bellagio attack.

Detectives said they questioned the jailed Stokes about the missing girl's whereabouts, but she told police she didn't know the child or her mother, and she refused to answer other questions.

After questioning friends, investigators searched Stokes' apartment and found a dark-colored, floral pants suit with blood on it that DNA testing confirmed belonged to the child, the report said.

Stokes was later re-booked on suspicion of murder and kidnapping, and is being held at the Clark County Detention Center.

Her attorney, Tony Liker, was not immediately available for comment Monday.

Authorities have not disclosed a suspected motive for the slaying or slashing attack.

The girl's body was found Thursday in North Las Vegas by someone walking her dog.

Stokes, who also goes by Brenda Stokes Wilson, is due in court Wednesday for an arraignment on the casino slashing case, and for a hearing on the murder and kidnapping case.

Brenda Stokes Wilson's lawyer, Tony Liker, told a judge Wednesday that Stokes Wilson will plead not guilty to all six charges now pending against her in the Dec. 21 death of 10-year-old Jade Morris and the attack on 44-year-old Joyce Rhone at the Bellagio.

A judge set an evidence hearing for March 28 and ordered Wilson held without bail.

Last week, rather than a ceremony to mourn her death, Jade's family held a ceremony to celebrate her life and the things that she loved; I like that.
==========================

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The song, "If I ain't got you" by artist Alicia Keys was Jade Morris' favorite tune. At the 10-year-olds's funeral on Wednesday, Morris' voice teacher Ane Marshall sang that song in her memory.

"She was so amazing, she was such a little singer," Marshall said.

For a 10-year-old, Morris had many passions, but her love of song came first and she wanted to be a jazz singer.

"She had the oldest voice," Marshall said.

With Morris' big voice came big personality. Hundreds of family and friends packed the Bread of Life Ministries on Lake Mead Boulevard and Simmons Road where people joined hands and with heavy hearts celebrated her life.

"You come in with a heavy heart," grandfather Philip Tucker said. "Every song, every prayer takes a little pebble off each time."

Since Morris' murder, the last few weeks have been hard on her family, but little sadness filled the church. Instead people focused on memories of Morris. She was a fifth grade student who loved to swim and her favorite animal was a butterfly.

"Such compassion, respect for human life, such respect for everyone," Morris' uncle, Paul Morris, said.

Her family said she was murdered because she was trustworthy and innocent. Now the family will focus on getting justice for her death.
=====================

This little girl was butchered by someone whom she loved and whom her family trusted, then tossed in an abandoned area where she remained for days before her body was discovered.

May she rest in peace and may this family get the justice that they seek.

Gimme a break...

Like George Zimmerman and his attorney, Brenda Stokes and her highly-credible 78 attorney, Tony Liker, are soliciting donations to fund her defense. She was indicted for the murder of 10 year old Jade by the Grand Jury and the prosecutors are currently evaluating whether to seek the death penalty. Here's the link to Mr. Liker's crock-o-shit website, "Brenda Stokes is Wrongly Accused!".

http://www.tonylikerlegaldefense.com/

New information released by prosecution:
-JADE WAS DRUGGED: Stokes drugged Jade with Xanax before she stabbed her 40 times, but there were defensive wounds on Jade's arms; she tried to fight back. Some of the stab wounds were inflicted after Jade was already dead.

-WEAPON FOUND IN BODY: A kitchen butcher knife was still lodged in the neck of little Jade when her body was dumped. It had been thrust into the back of her neck with such force that the blade of the knife protruded from the front of her neck.

-STOKES CRIMINAL HISTORY: Stokes did not have a criminal record, but only because another ex (father of her children) dropped charges against her for an attack with a razor blade 20 years ago. Charges were also dropped against her (after completing counseling) for assaulting a co-worker back in 2001.

-ALTERNATION SUSPECT - "DADDY DID IT": Mr. Liker claims that Jade's father (Stokes's ex-fiancée who is believed to have been having an affair with the co-worker that Stokes attacked the same day she killed Jade) could have killed Jade because he has an extensive criminal record. However, court records indicate Mr. Morris has one felony conviction of attempted grand larceny back in 2002, after which he successfully completed a court-sponsored drug treatment program.

Mr. Liker's "alternate suspects" claims are baloney, but you just know there are some dipshits out there who will read the crap on the website and click the "donate here" button. Probably too few to make a difference in this case, imo. The evidence is overwhelming.

If one believes in the death penalty, Stokes is a prime candidate as far as I'm concerned.
