It's obvious that there will be consequences for some things. This doesn't mean it's OK to scald yourself with their coffee or it's not your own fault if you do but such accidents are known in advance and steps should be taken to minimize the problem in advance. When they started making cars that you can't see behind you they should have told people this and to avoid backing over their children, unconscious adults, and pets the best they could. They should have equipped the first cars without vent windows with a warning sign that they would need air conditioning right where the vent window should have been.

Consumers need to start exercising better judgement and punishing the companies ruining products and adding poisons or water to food but I don't see this happening soon.

Cars have always had blind spots. What about knives. Caution, sharp? Ridiculousness.

Not unlike some of the quips contained within this thread.

I'd like to start with artificial sweetners. Some of us are not fat fucks and would like to be able to buy a creamscicle or yogurt for our kids once in a while that doesn't contain aspartame.

I disagree. If you buy a car, you should check for yourself if it has deficiencies like that. You only need to sit in that car and look around you, or do a test drive to see if it fits the basic safety requirements. And if it doesn't, well, DON'T BUY IT. If you still do because the cars oh, so shiny, or aren't capable of proper judgment when it comes to transport safety, then any accident is on you, and you alone. Product design is being done according to what customers buy and want. If the sale figures aren't good, they will adapt their design to sell more products. It's that easy, really.

That I agree wholeheartedly to. While in a lot of cases, you simply can't know for sure that something you buy is detrimental to your health or dangerous or fucking up the environment, applying common sense and gathering information goes a long way to eliminate stuff from your shopping list that demonstrably isn't good. Nobody forces anyone to buy junk food or sweets, tobacco, or cheap Chinese toys. It's childish to hold others responsible for something you do by your own choice.

Everyone has the power to punish a company: just don't buy their stuff. It hurts them much more than any lawsuit that usually ends with the company paying compensation which more often than not is a pittance compared to their profits. (the McD lawsuit being a case in point).

There are exceptions, of course. Sometimes you can only choose between two lesser evils, even more so when you're poor. That's when I acknowledge that taking actions like governmental exertion of influence or lawsuits are a necessary measures to enforce changes.

This is a damn lie the manufacturers have been telling for a long time now. It's right up there with the recorded voice that says; "your call is very important to us". The ONLY thing that matters to almost allof them for thirty years now is giving the customer less than he thinks he's getting and at a higher cost than he thinks he's paying. It's a race to the bottom in America where all the profits go to the CEO and if he puts the company out of business than he gets an extra bonus about the size of the failed pension fund. In America we get trickled on since the theif will pay lower taxes than his secretary.

Henry Ford once said that no one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American consumer. He said this long before the utter collapse of the educational system so it's far more true today. One consumer screaming is just a crackpot. Millions screaming gets pink slime out of some hamburger but you do realize this crap is still legal and should now be at an even lower price. They'll be putting it toothpaste or shampoo next (God knows it's not real poo).

The government is in on this. They get their cut and the manufacturers don't even put the chemicals they add on the labels. They've been doing this for years. So called frozen fish now can actually be more than half water. You pay to for the equipment to cheat you and you pay for the extra shipping and handling costs to cheat you. Then you pay the price of fish for water. If this isn't bad enough this fish rarely cooks up right and never tastes right.

Try any frozen fish sticks in the last few years. Fish is about the 4th ingredient and foul is first. I actually had to throw away FisherBoy sticks and would never buy Gorton's again.

Yes, they have. But this used to be a litytle area behind you to your left that was outside the range of your outside rearview mirror. Now it's almost everything directly behind you in addition as well as a large area behind you on the right.

I can't turn my head as well as I used to but there's far more to it than that because you can't see even when you do turn around.
