So looks like Phil might retire or move because of California's excessive taxation... is he right, or should he stop crying?

Money moves to where it is taxed less. People move to where they will be taxed less. Very wealthy people tend to be the tightest wads out there.

That is so true, yet I find it interesting that some people still don't believe it.
Wealth drain on high tax states is a real, verifiable piece of data... yet politicians still try to deny that high taxes have any correlation to it.

If only all my husband's clients would follow him...
I'm still sick about Prop 30. We don't have a lot of deductions either. Same house for 16 years. We pay a ridiculous amount in taxes.

Lots of wealthy people have been pursuing tax shelters and tax havens for years. I don't blame 'em.
California's bad, but it could be worse. The taxes on the wealthy in some European countries is insane.
I read an editorial piece a couple of days back giving Gerard Depardieu shit for moving out of France and into Belgium to avoid France's 75% income tax on those earning over $1.3 million USD. The French government is calling him unpatriotic. I remember some of that happening about a decade ago when Ringo Starr moved to Monaco because he was so highly taxed in England and California.
I'm scoping out relocation options because I'm getting drained financially, rather than to maximize a fortune (prop + payroll + biz taxes in California and then SF-specific taxes on top are just too much in this economy). I'm not wealthy. I don't think there's anything wrong with Mr. Mikelson or anyone from any income bracket doing what's best for them according to their priorities.

The problem is they move to a more conservative state then try to change the conservative state, kinda like a swarm of locusts. Thats why I'm surprized Texas said what they said to New Yorkers.

The article I read earlier this morning said that between the Feds, and the State of California, hes almost @ 66%. Fuck that. I'd be outta there. Shit aint right if the governments are taking more than you're taking home, no matter how much you make.

It's mind boggling when you consider all the taxes you pay combined. Not just Federal, State, SS, local, sales taxes, taxes on your utilities, property taxes, vehicle taxes, capital gains taxes...it goes on and on.

I believe most voters are simpleminded dupes. Incapable of thinking of the nation's interests, and focused primarily on their own immediate gratification, they can be won over, not through principled stands and a national vision, but by promising one's way into the morons' hearts with profligate spending projects that appeal to their narrow, short-sighted self-interest.
