Great find, Hot D!

Their reasoning behind keeping the photo out of the public eye is so puzzling to me. This guy was arrested back in January for having child porn on computer, there should have been a mugshot from that arrest as well.

Based on the article, I think username got it right.

Seems PD was awaiting positive witness IDs of Renz. They may not have wanted to leave open the possibility that a defense attorney could claim witnesses were influenced by a published photo.

The fact that they finally published it must mean they got the IDs they needed. Good!

Hope this guy gets the max; child predator and murderer - doesn't get worse.

In NY? LOL.

The upstate jury will convict and give him the max, then the appeals will get the max reduced and he'll be parole eligible in 15-20 years.

Lawyers told the harrowing story of how a mother was stabbed to death as she was trying to fight off the carjacker who had just raped her 10-year-old daughter moments earlier.

The prosecutor told the court how 29-year-old David Renz was trying to use cable ties to bind the woman to a headrest in her car when she fought back and shouted for the girl, whose hands were tied behind her back, to bolt from the car.

As the child ran off and was rescued by a passing motorist, her mother was strangled and repeatedly stabbed in the head and chest, according to a 37-count indictment that includes a top count of first-degree murder.

'(The mother) died really saving Jane Doe,' Fitzpatrick said at a news conference, using the standard name to identify the child, whose identity is not being revealed because of her age.

The murdered mother’s name is also not being revealed in order to protect the identity of the girl.

'There's no question that she attempted to distract Renz so that little Jane could get away.'

He said he will seek a sentence of life without parole if Renz is convicted.

Was curious regarding the status of this terrible case. Here's where it stands today.

1. Renz pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping, rape, murder...
2. The prosecutors decided not to seek the death penalty; they'll pursue life without parole.
3. The judge ruled that the court room will be closed to cameras.
4. The trial is set to start June 14.

The parole officers and their policies are under fire.

This is just maddening.

They had a local policy not to investigate ankle monitor alerts of less than 5 minutes in duration. In fact, they asked the monitoring company not to bother sending them to the parole office.

There were 46 alerts set off by Renz before he abducted the librarian and her daughter.
-36 of them were under 5 minutes in duration. The parole office didn't know about them.
-10 of them were longer than 5 minutes in duration and simply ignored.
The monitor was only checked once after Renz was paroled for possession of child porn, in violation of existing policy.

Jesus Christ. On the (frustrating) plus side, the mountain of data available from the tracking device, which includes an update on his location every 15 minutes, is expected to make the prosecution a slam dunk.

Hope the 10 year old is doing okay.

That mother saved her daughters life, what a sad story.

If I was a relative of this child, that nice monitoring system that overlooked SEVERAL alerts of a predator would have a NICE LAWSUIT and someone would be fired!

That is inexcusable, and the person that ignored/or overlooked them, HOPE THEY FEEL LIKE a piece of shit and will have to live with this for the rest of their lives! Assholes!!

Pisses me off that some of these 911 operators / monitoring workers take it upon themselves to pick and chose what cases they feel are serious or not. UGH the lack of education in these fields is astounding. (Ohio Kidnappings)

I AM SORRY if anyone on here is one of those workers, I am speaking of a percentage.

This is one of the worst cases I have ever read here. It is truly a devastating story. God help that poor child, and what an amazing woman that mother was.
