I thought Dubai was more forward thinking than this. After being raped at the hotel the woman asked staff to call the cops & they even questioned her desire to do that.

This happened to an Australian woman as well. She was gang raped and treated like a criminal by authorities.
The Sex and the City 2 movie is a really good insight into the double edge sword in that part of the world. Like in the beginning of the movie it is all very glitzy and glamorous and they are living the high life, then it quickly turns nasty and becomes dangerous and unsafe. It is so true and can happen there. It is a place where you can see 'bad things happen to good people'.

My version of sophisticated does not include building a city using virtual slave labour like they did in Dubai. Migrant workers working long hours in dangerous jobs for peanuts. Migrant workers who have their passports confiscated so they can not return home to visit their families. Migrant workers living 10 to a room without any air conditioning.

Physical and sexual abuse is widespread with domestic workers that are imported from the third world. It is disgusting to build an empire and infrastructure at the expense of others misery. It's not right.
