'Four young males have been arrested after the senseless, brutal beating of a man on a late-night walk Sunday on St. Paul's East Side, police said Friday.

The victim, Ray Widstrand, 26, of St. Paul, reportedly was in critical condition at Regions Hospital with potentially fatal brain swelling.

Police found Widstrand lying on the ground, bleeding from his nose and mouth, his pants removed and shirt torn, according to a criminal complaint filed by the Ramsey County attorney's office.

The county attorney's office said many of the fight's participants were believed to be members of the East Side Boys gang or its younger affiliate, Ham Crazy.'

Wrong place, wrong fucking time. Although the news story said he "tried to walk through a gangfight" which is either stupid as hell or not the true story. No innocent person just decides to stroll through "30-50" fighting teenagers. If he does, his parents oughtta be slapped for raising an idiot.

Imagine the media shit storm if that story was reversed...

However, people need to be aware of their surroundings. This young guy should've known he was in a shitty part of town, and therefore, a late night stroll could be dangerous.

It even looks like this guy intentionally moved into that area... wtf was he thinking? Terrible decision that ended up costing him dearly.

I think his excuse sounds like bullshit. Suburban kids who wind up in that kind of mess are usually trying to score and their malformed sense of entitlement doesn't warn them of potential danger.
