There is another young woman missing-this one is from the Quad Cities area.

"Family, friends and police are searching for a Davenport woman who has been missing since Saturday.

They gathered at Camden park in Milan Thursday morning to search for 29–year–old Carrie Olson.

But so far, family and friends have more questions, than answers.

Dave Olson, Carrie's father told CBS 4 he last saw his daughter Saturday afternoon.

He said everything was fine, she was wearing her Iowa Hawkeye's sweatshirt, and left to get her nails done.

Police said Carrie Olson was last seen Saturday in Rock Island near the 7–11 on 38th Street.

She's around 5 feet, 6 inches tall and between 170 and 200 pounds.

Her father, Dave Olson said they knew something was off when she didn't show up to work on Monday.

"We thought maybe she was sick or something. So we went to her house, and she wasn't there."

That's when the family alerted police.

"She would never leave her dog, their pals. It's very unusual for her to go away and not come back." "

More on Carrie Olson missing since 28 December:

"The family of Carrie Olson tell News 8 that a man Carrie knows, who was seen with her car early Sunday morning at a 7-Eleven in Rock Island, has returned to the Quad Cities with Carrie’s car.

Family members say Carrie’s purse was inside the car, but no cell phone or wallet.

Family members say the man was questioned by police for four hours into the early morning hours of Friday, January 3rd and then released.

Two search efforts were planned by friends hoping to discover clues about what happened to Carrie Olson of Davenport.

Between 6:30 and 7 a.m. Sunday, December 29th, Dave says the camera captured video of a man getting gas again in Carrie’s car. The videos do not clearly show if there was anyone else in the car at the time."

I am not sure if I read this report correctly, but a man who has a missing woman's car with her purse inside it is questioned for 4 hours and released? This was on the 2nd/3rd of January-she's still missing and the dude is not in custody? Am I missing something here? What could this guy's excuse for having a missing woman's car with her purse in it possibly be?
Did she get her nails done? Did the guy say how he came to be in possession of her car?

It's not that easy to detain people. There is a tremendous difference between the police "thinking" they know something and actually knowing and as we've all seen, the worst of the worst still have rights.

Yep. The guy, Tim Mcvay, is reportedly Carrie's ex-boyfriend, though that's not coming from police directly. They're being rather tight lipped about the whole situation.

If Mcvay says he dropped Carrie off somewhere on her request or they spent time together and then she loaned him her car, police have to investigate that story and prove it's false or find evidence of a crime before they can arrest him.

He coulda given police a story, then lawyered-up, said nothing else and refused a poly..so, police have to investigate him while he's on the outside; having no grounds to keep and charge him, even with her belongings found in the car. If they suspect Mcvay knows Carrie's location, they might wanna see what he does and keep an eye one him anyway, in hopes of being led to Carrie.

What's curious to me is what the police AREN'T saying publicly. Nothing about McVay and the nature of the relationship. Nothing about Carrie other than her last known whereabouts. Nothing about who Carrie is and her involvements.

I hope Carrie turns up soon and that she's alive and well, but it's very concerning that her purse and cell were in her car and that the last known person to see her was an ex.

I hope she turns up too but after the past few years of reading these crime threads I tend to think the worst :(

This one doesn't look good. It's colder than a witches tit in Iowa, unless Carrie is hiding out or being held indoors things look grim just from that angle.

I don't have a good feeling about Carrie. I hope I am wrong and she's on vacation in sunny Florida or something. I do wish that LE would be more forthcoming with information.

Anxious to hear some (hopefully, good) news, but still not much being released.

This was posted on the Find-Carrie-Olson Facebook page last night:

We still have no updates to give. Police are sifting through the data they have collected. Please stay with us and keep sharing. Someone does know the key and we are dedicated to finding Carrie. We hope to have information this weekend and/or new direction. Thank you all again for hanging in with us. Please come forward and contact police if you know anything that may be connected to her disappearance.

I wonder what her cell phone pings show between the time she was last seen at the gas station and the time it was found in Mcvay's car. Hoping it was turned on and gives LE some good clues as to Carrie's general location.
Body found and identified as Carrie Olson. RIP. 42

Investigators say even though Carrie Olson has been found, there is still a lot to do.

Now they must work to determine how she got from the Quad Cities to Minnesota, how she died and who, if anyone, is a suspect.

A property owner found her body Saturday, April 5, 2014, on land in rural Dakota County, Minnesota, about six miles south of the city of Hastings.

“It’s an area of about five- to six-acre home sites. One of the land owners was out placing a trail camera, to look for wildlife on his property, and that’s when he found Carrie,” said Tim Leslie, Chief Deputy for the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office.

Initial information, indicating her body had only been there for 36 hours before it was found, may not be accurate according to Leslie.

“That was an early theory on the part of some investigators. What we’re now doing is working with the Hennepin Crime Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the actual – how long the body was there based on the weather and those kinds of situations, and that’s open for determination by the scientific community,” Leslie said. “We may never know exactly when, how long she’s been there, so we’re working with the medical examiner’s office to figure that out.”

An autopsy has been completed but other tests are being run in an effort to determine the time and cause of her death. Leslie also confirmed the cooperative work happening between all of the law enforcement agencies involved.

Investigators are also cautious about what information they release, so they don’t reveal something that might jeopardize the case. “There’s a lot of moving parts, and we want to be very careful and be very deliberate in how we step forward from here,” Leslie said.

Thanks for the update HotD.

Davenport IA is about 5.5 hours SE of Minneapolis. Hastings is 30 miles SE of Minneapolis pretty much on the way between them.

My guess is the ex-boyfriend dumped her in Hastings on his way to MSP airport to fly out to Vegas. JMO though.

Jesus, that makes sense, Cheyne.

I don't know that part of the country well. Just plotted Davenport IA to Hastings MN to Minneapolis MN. I see where you're coming from.

Bugs the hell outta me that an ex-boyfriend was the last to see her on his way to rendezvous with the new lady love in Vegas -- using missing Carrie's car to get to the airport - a car which contained Carrie's cell phone and her purse. Effin' red flag city...

It's just over a 10 hour drive (according to Google Maps) from where Carrie was last seen and the Minny airport. Do you know what time McVay caught the flight to Sin City?

Cops make it sound like it's a possible suicide IMO, but I don't see how unless they think she killed herself and then someone (McVay) transported dead Carrie in her own car, dumped her body, and took off on vacation with his new chick -- or something equally illogical.

So sorry for Carrie's friends and family.

What are you thinking on this one? LE has McVay in their cross-hairs and just don't wanna release too much info so they can try to get him to say things only a murderer would know? Or LE is just plain clueless? TIA.
I did a little digging and found some interesting stuff. Disclaimer: not all of this information has been released by LE. There are FB rumors and comments by folks online so please take with a grain of salt.

Facts as reported in the media:

Carrie was last seen by independent witnesses at 4 pm on December 28 putting gas in her car (caught on video).

Tim McVay (ex-boyfriend) was seen getting gas at 6:45 am on December 29, McVay used Carrie's debit card to put gas in the car (he was caught on video).

McVay then drove to Minneapolis and caught a flight to Las Vegas with his [current] girlfriend.

When McVay returned from LV, he turned Carrie's car into police with the story that Carried allowed him to use her car to drive to Mnpls.

Carrie's purse, coat and winter boots were in her car. Her wallet and cell phone are missing.

McVay denies any involvement in Carries disappearance (and murder).

McVay's girlfriend (that he went to LV with) lives in Hastings MN.

LE in Hastings MN erroneously reported that Carrie's body had been on the property in Hastings for less than 36 hours. They have corrected that statement to say that she was probably placed there shortly after she died and was not found (or hadn't decomposed) due to weather.

Carrie Olson's family (including her parents) were not notified when she was found deceased, they found out through the media.

McVay lives in Rock Island IL, just across the river from Davenport IA. Map

Rumors/FB/Comments by locals:

McVay does not have a valid drivers license or own a car, and hasn't for years.

McVay has an extensive arrest record in both Davenport and Rock Island. (I checked the sex offender registry-he's not on it.)

McVay doesn't have a job.

McVay owed Carrie Olson money.

McVay has a general lack of respect for women and a "creepy" demeanor.
My take on this case:

Tim McVay and Carrie Olson were hanging out in Rock Island together on December 28. They may have hit a couple of bars or just hung out at McVay's apartment (which is only blocks from the 7-11 where Carrie was last seen). McVay needed money and a ride to Mnpls to catch the flight to Las Vegas with his new girlfriend. I believe he asked Carrie for the money and car and she told him "no".
Perhaps Carrie didn't know about the trip or the new girlfriend and freaked a bit when asked for money/car. Tim wanted to go and killed Carrie so he could.
I believe he killed Carrie either in his apartment or outside the car itself. Carrie was a big girl at 5'8" and 200 lbs., so I don't believe Tim could have carried her very far. He put her in her car's trunk-wrapped in the missing blue blanket she kept there.
He then gassed-up the car and drove to Hastings MN dumping Carrie in a remote wooded area before picking-up his girlfriend.

I haven't seen any media reports of cadaver dogs used in McVay's apartment or Carrie's car. There really isn't much out there that LE is releasing, hoping they have more than we know. The fact that Carrie's family was not notified of her body being found disturbs me. Being told your daughter is deceased by hearing it on the news? Disgusting.

JMO
Thanks for the info and background, Cheyne. Appreciated.

If Carrie's family wasn't notified that the body had been positively identified as hers before the news was released to media, that is really careless and unprofessional -- I agree.

Since her body was identified, investigators from Davenport (where she was from), Rock Island, Hastings and Dakota County – as well as the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office where her autopsy was conducted – have met to exchange what they know about the case and determine which agency should own the case. It was decided that Davenport Iowa police would continued to lead the investigation.

I have to believe they're all over McVay and just collecting enough evidence to make charges stick; hope that they're all cooperating with each other without any pissing contests between the investigative agencies from the different locales.

Snip:
Authorities were awaiting results of some tests conducted during autopsy to help determine how and when Carrie Olson died. Now that the lead investigative agency has been decided to be Davenport, they can focus on determining how Carrie Olson got from the Quad Cities to Minnesota and who, if anyone, is a suspect in her disappearance and death. (HOTD: the "if anyone" stipulation makes it sound like LE thinks it could be a death from natural causes or suicide -- seems impossible. Maybe they're just being extra cautious and waiting for final autopsy results ruling it a homicide.)

“At this time, everyone is analyzing a tremendous amount of new information,” Assistant Davenport Police Chief Donald Schaeffer said.

There is a reward for information for arrest and conviction in Carrie's murder.

HASTINGS, Minn. (KMSP) -

"The reward for information leading to an arrested and conviction in the death of missing Iowa woman Carrie Olson has been increased to $4,000.

Olson, 29, was missing for more than 3 months before her body was found Saturday, April 5 on an empty lot near Hastings, Minn.

Olson was last seen on Dec. 28 at a gas station in Rock Island, Ill., but she failed to show up for work at the family business two days later. Her disappearance captivated the Quad Cities, located right on the Mississippi River, and friends and family launched massive volunteer searches to find her."

I've read some scuttlebutt in the comments about LE waiting for the autopsy to be finished before they rule out accidental death and suicide. I hope an arrest will be made if the determination is murder.
They arrested the ex-boyfriend Tim McVay:

Carrie Olson's former boyfriend was charged Friday in her death and disappearance.

Tim McVay, 39, of Rock Island is charged with first-degree murder and concealment of a homicidal death, Rock Island County State's Attorney John McGehee said.

McVay was arrested Friday morning at a work site in Silvis and taken into custody without incident, McGehee said.

He is being held in the Rock Island County Jail on a $1.5 million bond.

Charges claim the homicide occurred within the city of Rock Island.

Carrie's autopsy results are due to be released this week.
I'm so glad to see that police had been tailing McVay all along and that he's been arrested.

His story sounds like complete bullshit.

Some of the info in Cheyne's link was new to me. I didn't know that Carrie had a iive-in boyfriend and that she had been captured on surveillance video at a casino before her disappearance. She was at the casino on the night of Dec. 28th and reported missing when she failed to show up for work on the morning of the 30th.

I wonder if McVay was at the casino too.
