Can you remember your favorite teacher? Maybe a better question would be, did you have a favorite teacher?
I had teachers who were memorable for various reasons, some good some bad. I moved around so much I actually have about three times the number of normal teacher types in my background. Sometimes I got to experience three full sets of teachers in a single year.
My 7th and 8th grade English teacher, Miss Hill. I've read/heard before that kids/people remember teachers not from what they taught them but from the way they made them feel. She made me feel so good about myself, blah, blah, blah. Years later I returned to my hometown to raise (rear) my boys and she was the principal of their elementary school. She treated them just like she treated me - both of them (at her request) had to go to her office every morning before they went to their classrooms. (not for punishment but just to be with them). When she was diagnosed with cancer she asked me to visit her every day - made me promise - which I did. Felt like I lost my second mother. On the other hand other students despised her as did all of her faculty/staff.
Like Donovan, I moved around a lot, had some good and some bad. 8th grade Earth Science teacher, Mr Jackson, gorilla looking black man with cataracts, way good guy. When I was 21 right before I got out of the Air Force I stopped by the school, was his last year to teach. H recognized me immediately and introduced me to the kids, I liked him a lot.
9th grade Shop teacher, another good teacher.
10th I had a Biology teacher, can't remember her name but holy shit was she hot!
I had one teacher I wanted very much to be nasty with and another I was nasty with. I remember them both equally fondly despite my utter failure to score with one. I remember a teacher as a favorite who I found out later hated me. One who hated all of us and swore she'd quit if we could find her a better paying job. One who I caught getting high with some high schoolers at my brother's keg party, when neither of us was supposed to be there and neither expected to see the other. One who got drunk every single day and never taught a thing: another who was so smart I saw him years later kicking ass on Jeopardy.
I remember almost all my teachers for one thing or another all the way back to second grade or so. Before that not so much. Mainly because the only way I can remember when certain things happened to me is by remembering the school, the grade and the teachers. The rest is a blur.
