. . . . . . . . . of a portable GPS device.

A GPS was placed in its bracket on the windshield of a car in photos below and left in the sun.
The battery overheated and exploded !
Just Look at the devistating damage!

This also applies to cell phones, tablets, digital cameras, and other devices that use lithium batteries. This may be the reason why the US Postal Service will no longer ship electronic devices that contain lithium batteries?

So beware, not everyone knows not to leave electronic devices in the sun. Looks like a good lesson for some to learn before it's too late.

LiPo batteries are pretty picky about charging rates, heat and all that. I have not had any of mine flame, but had a couple of them get hot and puff up, be careful, they can be dangerous
Is there an App for that?
Yes, about 6 of them
I think there's more to it than just heat. I live in Az. and this is the first I've heard of this. It seems to me that if heat and litho batteries = catastropy, I would have heard something by now.
You don't remember the stories about laptops going nuclear about a year ago?

I could be wrong about this but I don't feel like going back and checking but I think when the Malaysian flight first went missing one of the scenarios that was looked into was to verify it was carrying a large load of these type of batteries.
I wonder if the Boeing Co.'s 787 Dreamliner fires were similar in nature to these battery malfunctions?

Can't say I do. If heat is the catylist, it seems I should at least know someone who knows someone that this happened to. I'm calling BS. hah

I think it's irresponsible to leave your devices in the hot sun like that. I don't care what happens to the belongings of those who are lackadaisical. It's only common sense for godssake. Fuck 'em.
Why does this shit only happen in the US?

...because we have teh stoopid in spades.
