Someone told me that disciplining your kids could lead to legal consequences, in that a parent could be charged with abuse. Is this for real? There are generations of people who were spanked or switched but it was said that parents run a risk if they put their hands on their kids in that manner. Loving parents should have the right to discipline their children in whatever way they want. I'm not talking about beating a kid either, I'm referring to disciplining.
I think spanking leaves a mark nowadays it's considered beating, and not discipline. I think the things parents may struggle with, is that kids are taught an early age these days to tell a teacher if these things happen. Teachers have to report this stuff. Investigation is opened. Who want's to take the risk? Dad used a fraternity paddle on my ass when I fucked up. Teacher used a paddle ball paddle, in front of the fucking class, when I fucked up, and the Principal used a wood board wrapped in electrical tape, with holes for less resistance, when I fucked up in school. And ya know what, I turned out OK.
When my kids fuck up. I beat them with a bag of oranges.
I spanked my kids. They even threatened a few times to call the cops on me...I would hand them the phone.
We got spanked when I was a kid, paddled in school by the principal or one of the teachers and Still I turned out to be a pretty good guy.
I spanked my kids too, although I didn't need to past about 3 because we taught them to act right instead acting like assholes.
But these days yes you can get reported and have to go through all that bullshit.
From the storied I have read mostly it happens when parents lose it and go off on the kid. That happens because they missed that critical part about raising to not be an asshole.

Yes its ridiculous
Beating tenderizes them. Its all about what you beat them with or at.
I have been known to administer a swat or two for specific reasons, but I also know it's one of the least effective methods of parenting. Speaking in a general sense, if you have to resort to physical violence to make your point you've already lost the battle of wits...with a child.

I don't think it's okay for outsiders, for lack of a better word, to become involved in how loving parents correct their kids. I don't think it's anyone's business.

It depends on whats being done. I have seen parents beat the living shit out of a kid before.
Thats a specific instance that I WILL step in and stop
I knew a family that used a nail board to whack their kids on the back of the legs. That is what the kids said. It looked like mosquito bites. So who knows.

I have never seen that done but I know I wouldn't stand there and watch it go down without saying something. I would never sanction a kid being hit like that, never. When I think of discipline, I think of diaper clad bottoms being swatted and little hands smacked in order to reinforce a NO. I know people probably have different "levels" of discipline and I fall on the low end like that which I just described.
The cold hard stare works now for me, but when my son turns 14 I'm sure we will get a chance to get in the boxing ring so I can legally kick his ass.

I can remember that from my own dad. I haven't seen it in a long time but I can remember the power of it, it had the ability to make all our mouths snap shut. Hehehe.

That's because you knew what was next if you kept doing whatever you were doing.
