Call it Dumb, or call it careless, either way I loaned out a shotgun to a friend that just happen to be a felon. He got caught with it and spent 4 years fed time and I lost the gun. That's not the dump part though.
The dumb part is that I should have learned from my first mistake. That being I lent out a handgun to a friend so his OL would have some protection at home while he did a short time in. Well she got drunk and long story short I had to pick up that revolver from the local PD.

But, I have been told by others that I sometimes do/did dumb things.

Why would you say that and let us wonder what it is? I bet making up stories will be better than the real story. If you share your dumb story I will share my dumb story about how I locked myself in a basement this winter.
