I have mixed feelings about this one. For some reason I'm having a problem sentencing her to life in prison.

Me too. I mean, ya she did something HORRIBLE. I fucking hate her for it. But she is 17, it is proven that teenagers do not have the capacity to comprehend situations. The don't have the capacity to think things through. The girl panicked. I think she should be thrown into an institution.

I have another controversial thought: should it weigh in that it was such a brand new life? A life she just made, one that was inside of her just minutes before? The main point being, it wasn't like the typical "she went out and killed someone and so should spend life in prison." I can see how a special "ownership right" might be in play under that circumstance. I guess that is at the heart of the abortion debate.

I'm just saying, it's hard to classify her a murderer, or murderous in my mind. That's partly because the extreme emotional factor involved, but I have to admit, it's also partly due to how I don't consider it the same as killing another person, or the newborn of someone else.

I am sickened by what she did, but like I said. I have mixed feelings on it all.

Stabbed 135 times............think on it. That is not some sort of abandonment or walking away. Punishment is in order even if she needs a brain transplant.

ps: I would not hesitate to take a real hard look at the parents. That young woman did not get that sort of attitude by accident.

I'm just saying, I think she might be young and very mentally fucked up more than a murderer that society should be protected from by keeping her in prison until she is elderly and dead. A mental institution might be better, no?

You know as well as others. A life sentence does NOT mean "life". I do agree she needs mental help but NOT a free walk.

The fact I am a sufferer means I am actually more qualified than any non-sufferer to comment on this dickhead.

This woman obviously has very serious mental health problems, stabbing a baby over a hundred times is not the work of a rational mind, and not the work of a sober murderous mind. She needs serious and prolonged treatment which must of course be given in conjunction with a long custodial sentence. Mental health problems are not an excuse but are a mitigating factor.

As a parent, I can't fathom this in the slightest. I can't be unbiased inconversation about it and my immediate reaction is to find the bitch and deliver a double-tap to the back of her head.

I agree with Sin. There is no fucking reason or excuse in the world to justify what she did. None. And if she is that sick, then she needs to be put to death because there is no way she is going to recover from that. If she ever gets "sane" enough she won't be able to live with what she did. And her mother didn't know she was pregnant? Come on. I don't buy that for a minute. This story just makes me ill. Absolutly ill. WTF is WRONG with people????

I think if she's going to be institutionalized, it better be for life. She's obviously very sick. Any healthy 17 year old in that position, with murder on the mind, would have suffocated or abandoned the baby somewhere.

I'm assuming(the article didn't say) that she didn't KNOW she was pregnant?

WTF is up with teenagers not knowing they're pregnant? I blame the parents. Education is key. Chances are if you don't know you're pregnant and give birth to a viable fetus, you're probably morbidly obese. Again, I blame the parents.

This sickens me. And its so sad. But think of the life with that "mother" that the child was saved from.

If she didnt know she was pregnant which CAN happen then I can see her being freaked out....but 135 times?! stabbing a little tiny 6 pound thing. (roughly.) I dont even really like kids but DAMN!!!!

She surely deserves something....
