They could have bombed the shit out of us by all means but that wouldn't really have helped them invade due to the power of our Navy.

The Battle of Britain achieved air superiority for Operation Overlord which made the Normandy invasion much more straight forward.

The fact that Hitler thought he could simply attack the Russians and wipe them out with little thought for how fanatical they could be and the incredible losses suffered by the Wermacht at the hands of the Red Army means an invasion of Britain could never have taken place. There simply wasn't the man power in quality or numbers even including Ost battalions.

This is before you even go into the problems the Luftwaffe had in terms of leadership and the whole leadership in general of the Axis forces (Only Hitler could order Panzer divisions for example).

America sped up the result, they didn't 'win the war'.
