the statue of the iconic photo was unveiled in NYC today...commemorating the 65th anniversary of VJ Day.
the lovely nurse in the photo passed away recently.
New York City has unveiled a 25 foot statue in Times Square, based on a famous Life Magazine photo of New Yorkers celebrating the end of the war with Japan on Aug. 14, 1945.

Unconditional Surrender is a sculpture by Seward Johnson, resembling a photograph by Alfred Eisenstaedt, but said by Johnson to be based on a similar, less well known, photograph by Victor Jorgensen.

It will be on display in Times Square through Monday, August 16, 2010.
