VANCOUVER — Actor Randy Quaid told Canada's immigration board Friday that he and his wife are seeking asylum from "the murderers of Hollywood" and will therefore apply for refugee status in Canada, after they were arrested on U.S. warrants related to vandalism charges.

The pair were arrested on Thursday afternoon in a shopping area of an affluent Vancouver neighborhood and were jailed on outstanding U.S. warrants.
The Quaids are wanted in Santa Barbara, where they missed a court hearing Monday on felony vandalism charges.

The Quaids were ordered released from custody Friday, but must each post $9,750 bail and fulfill their promise to appear for their next hearing Thursday.

Santa Barbara County Senior Deputy District Attorney Lee Carter said Friday that Quaid and his wife Evi's bail increased to $500,000 apiece.

Their attorney, Robert Sanger, said he hoped the situation could be resolved but declined comment citing the pending case.

The couple told the immigration adjudicator they are being persecuted in the United States.

Evi Quaid begged a Canadian immigration adjudicator not to force them to return, saying on Friday that friends, such as actors David Carradine and Heath Ledger, have been "murdered" under mysterious circumstances and she worried something would happen to her husband next.

"We feel our lives are in danger," she said. "Randy has known eight close friends murdered in odd, strange manners ... We feel that we're next."

During a break in the proceedings, the Quaids' lawyer, Brian Tsuji approached the media to read a single-sentence statement from the Quaids. "We are requesting asylum from Hollywood star whackers," he read, declining further comment on the mental state of his clients.

Evi Quaid said she's been told by a jail nurse that her blood pressure is dangerously high due to stress and that Randy Quaid's mother has been hospitalized in the U.S. as a result of the stress from their legal troubles.

Friday's hearing was a mandatory detention review.

On Friday, the Quaids promised they would appear for their next hearing. Evi Quaid said she'd be willing to wear an ankle bracelet while staying at a posh Vancouver hotel.

Randy Quaid said the couple came to Canada because he was being given an award by a film critics group. He said they were considering moving to Vancouver where Randy planned to jump-start his career.

He said the pair believed the warrants were issued by mistake and had been withdrawn and the couple didn't travel north in an effort to skip out on them.

"Canada is a beautiful country for what we want to do," Quaid said outside the hearing room, without elaborating on his plans. Quaid was questioned by a reporter if the couple are dealing with a substance abuse problem, which he denied.

Always thought he was a bit of a froot loop..even by Hollywood standards. I am sure his family is so proud.
maybe they're going to live free among the moosies!
I feel a little sorry for him. He is obviously mentally ill. Everybody has that one relative we don't like to claim.
The creator of Bullwinkle just died. Go figure. :O
RIP Mr. Anderson. i loved Dudley Do-right too.

MONTEREY, Calif., Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Animation artist Alexander Anderson Jr., the creator of the "Rocky and Bullwinkle" cartoon, has died in Carmel, Calif., at the age of 90.

Anderson, a former U.S. Navy spy, honed his animation chops at Terrytoons, the New York studio that created "Mighty Mouse," "Heckel and Jeckel," "Tom Terrific" and "Deputy Dawg," working with his uncle Paul Terry, his wife told the Monterey (Calif.) County Herald.

He died Friday at his home in Pebble Beach after several years of declining health.

In 1948, Anderson joined forces with childhood friend Jay Ward creating such landmark television cartoons as "Crusader Rabbit," "Dudley Do-Right," and the zany Cold War characters of Rocky the Flying Squirrel, his sidekick Bullwinkle the Moose, and crafty Russian spies Boris Godunov and Natasha Fatale.

Anderson won an out-of-court settlement with Jay Ward Productions over rights to Rocky, Bullwinkle and Dudley Do-Right in 1996 and was recognized as the creator of the iconic cartoon characters.

Anderson's wife of 36 years, Patricia, told the Herald her husband created Bullwinkle after a dream about a moose sitting in on his poker games with friends.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Duane Chapman, star of the television program "Dog the Bounty Hunter," says he won't go to Canada to track down actor Randy Quaid and his wife.

But Chapman said he wants to talk to Quaid about charges he fleeced hotel owners and squatted in property he and his wife had previously sold, Postmedia News reported.

Meanwhile, the bail for Quaid and his wife Evi was increased to $500,000 in a Santa Barbara, Calif., court Friday after prosecutors learned the fleeing couple were in Canadian custody, the report said.

"I want to hear the story," Chapman said. "We've heard he's out. It is a good opportunity. I want to talk to him."

Chapman said he had never heard the term "star whackers," which Evi referred to in a note from her lawyer Friday. She alleged "star whackers" were responsible for the deaths of Heath Ledger and David Carradine.

"That is the first time I heard about it," Chapman said of the "star whackers" allegation. "Something is wrong here and we need to find out."

Veteran actor Randy Quaid and his wife Evi remain in a Canadian jail despite being granted a release from custody last week following their arrest on outstanding U.S. warrants.

The Quaids are wanted in Santa Barbara, California, after missing a court hearing related to vandalism charges resulting from their arrest last month on suspicion of illegally squatting at a home they previously owned.

They were arrested last Thursday in Vancouver. The following day they were ordered to be released from custody on $9,750 bail on the condition they appear at their next hearing, which was scheduled for tomorrow.

Both Canada Border Services Agency spokeswoman Shakila Manzoor and the Quaids' lawyer Brian Tsuji refused to reveal why they are still being held.

maybe because they are flight risks? hah

I see them and think Hale Bopp Comet freaks. LOL I wonder if he has always been this batshit crazy, and cracker I LOVE your avatar. One of my favorite movies.
EH?
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Actor Randy Quaid and his wife Evi have been released from a Canadian detention facility after she was declared a Canadian citizen, Canadian border officials said Wednesday.

The Canada Border Services Agency confirmed in a statement that Evi Quaid is a citizen of Canada.

The pair had appeared at an immigration hearing in which they requested refugee status based on their belief that they were being persecuted by "Hollywood star whackers," as they put it, and that their lives were in danger.

During the hearing, Evi Quaid repeatedly said her father was a Canadian FBI agent, a claim she explained later by saying her father was a Canadian who moved to the United States and began working for the FBI.

Catherine Sas, the Quaid's new lawyer, said Evi Quaid can live and work in Canada and border officials have withdrawn their proceedings.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Randy Quaid and his wife remained in Canada on Tuesday and missed a mandatory arraignment, but their attorney says he may have proof they weren’t illegally squatting at a California home where they were recently arrested.

The Quaids are seeking asylum in Canada, saying they fear a group they’ve dubbed the "Hollywood star whackers." Randy Quaid’s attorney said the actor was required to remain there until a Nov. 8 immigration hearing.

Santa Barbara Superior Court Judge Donna Geck agreed not to issue a bench warrant for the Golden Globe-winning actor and not forfeit his $500,000 bond, but the judge did not grant similar leniency to his wife.

Geck issued a warrant for Evi Quaid, and prosecutors said they may eventually seek extradition to return her to the coastal town where the Quaids have faced two criminal court cases and have missed numerous court appearances.
Time for the family to step in. He can't be trusted on his own.

Why would he get different treatment than his wife? That doesn't seem quite fair.

i believe judge cut him some slack because of his upcoming hearing in Canada on nov. 8.
she is now "a Canadian citizen", so had no immigration hearing excuse for failure to appear.

Funny guy, but somewhere his train veered off the tracks...
He married a nutfuck dreamkiller. He should have married someone who can prescribe meds.

That makes sense.

He should leave her in Canada. I think he can do better.
