Stupid fucknut buys coin off tv commercial. Feels scammed.

"A coin commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks is drawing the ire of consumers and politicians who have learned that the coin may be just a worthless trinket that has no affiliation with the U.S. government and does not benefit the 911 Memorial.

Katie Smith and John Shughart of Carlisle, Pa., thought they were buying a priceless piece of history. Now, the coin they bought may have not even a cent of value.

"I think it's a complete rip-off," says Smith. "It's a scam." "

Seriously? This surprises them? Maybe they should take it up with Rachel from Cardholder Services.

I rarely hear smart people complain.
at another forum that had a lot of coin collectors (some of the members here), it was said more than once to stay away from those commemorative issues.
You mean the awesome camaro one is a rip off, too?

damn. there goes the kids' college fun.
I remember asking about that at 24. Both Mil and Newbie basically said, buy them for the trinket value but not because of any potential monetary worth.

i have space shuttle coins for many launches. but someone was buying them as a gift for my son, who i had brought to see the launches.
they weren't purchased for intrinsic value.

That's the thing, though...buy them if you like the way they look, and it will bring up a pleasant memory. It's these stupid sods who buy them thinking "oooh, they're gonna be worth a billion zillion dollars in an hour or two!" that boggle what passes through my skull.

I have a few coins my mother bought for my kids, which bring back great memories...but they're otherwise worthless. They always were.

Oh, and somewhere in a box I have a coin from the '76 Carter/Ford election. Heads, vote Carter. Tails, Ford. If it landed on the edge, vote for Anderson. I think it was free, even. I love that dumb coin.

But buying that thing thinking it was made from scrap metal from ground zero, are they seriously that gullible? Or morbid?
