NASHUA - Christian Jackson was killed by significant blunt force trauma, and the 3-year-old's death has been deemed a homicide, the prosecutor said Thursday.

Authorities have not yet charged anyone, or identified any suspect.

Police are still interviewing witnesses, and the state medical examiner's office has not yet pinned down the exact time of Christian's death, or offered an estimate as to when the injury was inflicted, Assistant Attorney General Benjamin Agati said.

We don't have a clear timeline yet of when the injuries would have occurred, Agati said.

Agati said the timeline is a significant factor, and should help to narrow the field of potential suspects, as Christian Jackson spent time in two different households, in both his father's and his mother's care.

Christian Jackson was born in January of 2008, the son of Shawn Ganley, 30, of 63 Chestnut St., and Latoya Jackson, 23, of 46 Myrtle St., in Nashua. Both Ganley and Jackson have prior criminal records, and Jackson previously lost custody of another child due to child abuse.

The couple never married, and Jackson had been raising Christian exclusively for most of his life, with welfare assistance, according to court records. Ganley began seeing his son on weekends sometime in the past several months, according to court records.

Ganley had custody of Christian from Friday evening through Sunday evening each weekend, by court order, while Jackson had the boy during the week, and a friend of Jackson told the Telegraph that the couple followed the schedule strictly.

Someone in Ganley's home called 911 late Saturday night, Agati said, and Christian was taken to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, where he was declared dead. There were several people in Ganley's home at the time, but none have been identified.

Police have interviewed both Ganley and Jackson, Agati said, and they are interviewing anyone who had any contact with Christian Jackson in the days before his death.

Both Christian Jackson's parents have prior criminal records.

Jackson was convicted in 2005 on a hindering apprehension charge stemming from a child abuse case against a former boyfriend, Jose Meza. Meza admitted to repeatedly breaking their infant daughter Mariah Meza's bones, because he was frustrated by her crying. Meza pleaded guilty to felony assault charges, and was sentenced in 2007 to at least 12 years in prison.

Jackson was 16 when the abuse was discovered in 2004, and she later admitted helping Meza hide their daughter's injuries. She agreed to testify against Meza, and was sentenced to five years on probation. Mariah Meza was put into foster care, and Jackson has been unable to regain custody, a friend said.

Jackson has two other children, a five-year-old boy and a baby girl. Agati declined to comment on whether state social service agencies are involved, or taking any action regarding those two children.

Ganley was convicted in 2004 and sentenced to 2½ to seven years in prison on charges of first-degree assault, attempted first-degree assault, burglary, possession of heroin, and four counts of simple assault. Ganley admitted to trying to stab his girlfriend after she confronted him about his drug use, and then stabbing his cousin, John Ganley, in the chest after his cousin tried to break up a fight between him and his girlfriend. He was released from prison April 27, officials said, and he remains on parole, with an additional, suspended sentence.

On Nov. 29, Shawn Ganley filed emergency petitions in both Nashua District Court and the Hillsborough County Family Court in Merrimack, seeking custody of his son.

Ganley had been taking the boy on weekends, from Friday evening through Sunday evenings, for about a month at that point, while his mother, Latoya Jackson, cared for him during the week, according to court records.

“Since I have separated from my son’s mother I have been taking him every weekend,” Ganley wrote. “He has come with bite marks on his face, choke marks on his neck and this past weekend he has come with a black eye and the whole side of his head and face bruised. He has also in the past year had a broken arm and a dislocated shoulder.”

Ganley asked the court to let him keep Christian, writing, “I’m afraid she’ll take him back and something bad will happen to him.”

you can hear her? how? all i can hear is narrator. not even reporter.

the father's demeanor seemed pretty straight to me.

as for her comment, that's smacks of pre-planned rehearsed alibi...what did she do, beat him then take him to baby daddy? she has a history of child abuse.
Latoya's oldest daughter that was taken from her.. This story is so sad! Christian Jackson never had a chance poor baby :(

This is an old article I found about her first child that was taken from her due to abuse.

NASHUA, N.H. (AP) Police call the case of an infant girl found with more than a dozen broken bones ''extremely heart wrenching'' as they moved to prosecute the father.

Jose Meza, 25, was arraigned in court Friday morning, charged with three counts of first-degree assault. His bail was set at $100,000. Sgt. Andrew Lavoie said Meza injured the 3-month-old baby by shaking, twisting, pulling and squeezing her until her bones broke.

''The doctor who checked the child yesterday said it was the worst case of child abuse that he had seen,'' Sgt. Tim Goulden said.

The baby's mother, Latoya Jackson, 17, was charged with lying about the injuries, endangering the welfare of a child, and hindering the arrest of Meza.

''(She had) broken bones for several months,'' Lavoie said. ''One can only imagine how the baby feels.''

Police said the couple had driven their daughter to Mexico last month for treatment because they were worried about facing criminal charges. Meza is a Mexican citizen and his immigration status is unclear.

When Judge James Leary asked Meza if he wanted to make any arguments for lowering his bail, Meza said he wanted another chance to take care of the baby.

''Not only are you not going to get a chance to take care of the baby, you're not going to see the baby,'' Leary said.

Officials at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center notified police Wednesday night after the baby was taken there with multiple fractures to the legs, arms, ribs and collarbone. X-rays showed the baby had 17 broken bones in various stages of healing, according to police.

Police said Jackson told them that the baby was injured after falling off a bed and being dropped by a 4-year-old relative.

The infant is being treated at Children's Hospital in Boston, where she was listed in fair condition.

Records show the parents live at different addresses, but police said it appears the assaults occurred at the mother's home in Nashua.

Lavoie said there was no record of calls or complaints from neighbors.

Jackson's sister, Jennifer Dorval, said she doubted that Meza could be capable of committing such brutal crimes against his daughter, saying he was an attentive father who stayed by Jackson's side during the pregnancy and took care of their daughter immediately after her birth. She also refused to believe Jackson would allow the abuse to happen without telling anyone.

''She was always overprotective of her,'' Dorval said. ''She wouldn't even let anybody baby-sit the baby. The baby was always with her.''

The parents told police they brought their child to Mexico for medical treatment to avoid criminal charges here, according to Lavoie.

They were told that the baby had a broken arm and would need to be treated in the United States. When they returned, the couple did not seek medical treatment and the girl suffered additional injuries, Lavoie said.

She says "I just want to say that my son wasn't in my custody, I just wanna know why anybody would do that to my son, I want whoever done this to my son to be brought down, and we just need answers to know what happened to him, he was just an outgoing kid that made everybody smile, and just by looking at him lights up the whole room, he was a very good kid, I just wanna know what happened to my baby and that's it, I want him back but nothing is gonna bring him back".
