The News of the World was a right wing gutter press sunday "news"paper full of tits, shits and celebrity scandal, kind of like if the National Enquirer was run by neo nazis. It was forced to shut down yesterday with its last edition because of scandal, it was owned by right wing media shitbag Rupert Murdoch.

Journalists for the rag were hacking into celebrities/sportsmens cellphones to access private messages with which they published dirty linen in public. They have also been found guilty of hacking into the cellphones of the families of UK servicemen/women killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, the families of high profile murder victims, and the families of victims of ⁹⁄₁₁ and 07/07.

The paper has caused outrage in the UK for stooping to these disgusting lengths and Murdoch was forced to pull the plug to save face.

There has been a media shitstorm ever since.

Hacking the cellphones of the families of victims of murder and terrorism to print filth.

The Daily Wail has been very reticent about the whole thing, the editor Paul Dacre is a legendary cunt in the world of journalism.

The press in the UK is generally gutter style junk, all the papers have their own agendas both to the right and to the left, I don't even really trust the BBC anymore.

You basically have your right wing tabloid The Sun and left wing tabloid The Mirror.

Your right wing broadsheet The Daily Mail and left wing broadsheet The Guardian.

And all the rest are a giant clusterfuck.

Did you buy a copy of the last edition? I heard it was an immediate collector's item and sold out by noon or something.

It's been all over the news here too. I don't quite get how they used the information they hacked; I haven't heard any specific examples.

Didn't they close the paper but the top lady got to retain her job or something? Niiiiice.

No I didn't, seven and a half million copies were printed so unless the Earth turns into Kevin Costners Waterworld I can't see the last edition being valuable.

Basically cellphones have a four digit pin that blocks access to voicemail messages left on it, most people are unaware of this and they never change the default pin which is usually 1234 or 1111. So someone with a cellphone and your cellphone number can access your voicemail messages unless you have changed the pin to protect them.

Yes the paper was shut down and Rebekah Brooks has got away scott free, the former editor Andy Coulsen however (ex communications director of the prime minster David Cameron) among others have been arrested,

Rebekah Brooks resigned from News international yesterday and another former news of the world editor also resigned, Rupert Murdoch has been forced to apologise in person to the family of murdered teenager Milly Dowler for the NOTW hacking her cellphone for voicemails and deleting them to hopefully make room for more when she went missing.

Yeah looks like Murdochs larger mainstream media ambitions are in tatters now, his proposed takeover of BskyB broadcasting has been blocked by the UK government pending an enquiry and the share price of news international is dropping like a stone.
