The Mock Effect

Definition: The tendency to start having uncontrollable urges to be 'brutally honest' and often crude, with people outside of Mock Forum.

Example "You know what Sally, you stupid cunt, I'm fed the fuck up with your inane bullshit. Why don't you go rip your ovaries out and do the world a favor?"

This tends to present in small, but ever increasing ways. First in other interactions online, then moving to face to face encounters.

The Mock Effect is said to either be a very healthy trend of honest expression, nearly therapeutic, or deadly to one's relationships and livelihood, depending on the situation.

Beware The Mock Effect... it creeps up when you least expect it.

"I'll tell you what, Doctor Patterson... I appreciate your business, I really do, but since you felt justified in charging me $300 for that little 15 minute exam a few months ago, I've decided to implement a special rate just for you. Hell, you can afford it. You now owe me $1500 for that hardware installation, according to your own time/value ratio and no... your insurance doesn't cover it you stuck up overbearing prick".

I agree ... I posted about this a while back. So many more forum sites seem fake and too nice to me now. It feels "shackled." In general, I have a harder time nowadays not being real direct.

I've had the mock effect long before mock existed.

Believe it or not, I used to be very shy. NO ONE I know believed that until they met my friend Cigars - anyway, I got over that shy crap years ago and found that if you are quite direct and let them think you are so sure of yourself, you WILL get your way.

Now, there are times that I MUST be polite, situations I can't be so rude or obnoxious but I've learned how to be so "politely" too. I find the game fun. I find most people stupid balls of putty who actually cannot function unless they are lead by a ring in the nose.

I've also stopped taking shit from rude people. I cannot tell you how many rude people live here! It's amazing they'll run into you with a shopping cart and then look at you as if you're in the wrong! At the movies last week, some woman just kept on driving nearly hitting us. I punched her rear fender - she stopped and started with me for touching her car.... which I reminded her to get out so I can mangle her face so she regrets her mouth and bad driving every time she looks in the mirror for the rest of her life. She left quietly.

I also found that if you call people out, they shut the fuck up. So far, so good.... I've not come to fisticuffs with anyone. I'm sure my mouth will cause it to happen one of these days though!

Granted it does not work everywhere and every time but hey, gimme credit for trying!

i can't help it, i was raised to be polite and well-mannered...i want my Mom to be proud of me. but then after a few years dealing with the scum of the earth, i lost my civility. a few times i've been really rude here, and have felt terrible afterwards. ::i also had to stop and think in real life, when i was not dealing with some dirtwad i had in cuffs. even with them i used humor and/or sarcasm to make my point, unless there was violence involved or i really hated their guts like with baby killers. but...i do love sarcasm and sardonic humor, and will share comments with friends for a giggle.

edited to add: i would gladly rip robodwarf a new asshole every day of the week. to go with the one on his face.
