You know the Duggers..the small country with 19 kids?? She was apparently preggers with number 20...and she miscarried. Now...it is sad when someone miscarries, and even with this one, I will not make light of the miscarrage itself. BUT..isn't 19 enough? Saying that God will tell them when to stop...ya think the last one almost dying and this one being lost, isn't that the first clue?
Granted they are not on public assistance or anything, so we the people are not supporting them, but with overpopulation..does one family really need THAT many children? From all I have heard, the parents do not really do all that much caregiving for the kids..the older girls do most of it. Not fair to them.

I try not to pay attention to the reality TV shows-these people are really just exploiting their kids. When Jon and Kate + 8 first came out, my sisters and cousins loved it-they couldn't get enough. Now look at them, divorced and fighting through the tabloids all the time. The kids are growing up with that fucked up life.

Back to the Duggers...miscarrying after movement is felt is terrible, whether it's the 1st or 20th....but why have your face in front of a camera squawking about how heartbreaking it's going to be to tell the other children...you know it'll be one of next season's episodes, and probably the funeral as well, why can't they let their other children grieve in peace?
How far along was she that they are having a funeral?

2nd trimester, I think
I just do not get it...I mean when we were told to be fruitful and multiply, that was back in the day when there were about 6 people on the whole planet!! And I do not think he meant ONE fricking family had to populate the whole place.
I agree that they have taken this too far. At some point you have to say enough. Yes, God has blessed them with a beautiful family and yes they support themselves. But when your children start having children it's time for you to stop.

Is it common in large families for the older daughters to raise the younger children?

I wouldn't know. But probably it was more common years and years ago when people had larger families. Nowdays, most people have 2 or 3 kids and that is it.

My husband comes from a family of 7 children, I asked him and he said his parents routinely left the older kids to care for the younger ones. His mom always had laundry, cooking, or cleaning to do, and his dad was either out of the house, or drunk.

My husband was the middle child, he had 2 older brothers, that took care of him and a slightly older sister. His older brothers spent the summers trying to drown him, and the winters trying to convince him the ice was safe no matter what temp it was out. I've been with him for a little over 10 years and I still can't get the man to go near a lake.

That is seriously messed up. Those little bastards!

We had 5 in my family and we had my younger brother believing he was adopted for about 3 years or so.
