Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Syracuse police investigators are trying to find $60,000 missing from a brinks armored truck.

The truck dropped cash onto North Salina Street on the Syracuse⿿s North Side Friday evening. Some good Samaritans gathered up more than $276,000 and turned it over to police.

However, it turns out there should have been $336,000 found.

At one point, police say someone tried to take a bag but was stopped by the good samaritans. Now - they're trying to figure out why the numbers don't add up.

Jason Woods works at the barbershop on the corner, and was one of the first people outside when bags of cash were discovered on the street. ⿿Everyone's thinking - what can we do with this money, but we gave it back,⿝ Woods said.

Sgt. Tom Connellan, a spokesperson with Syracuse Police says ⿿you really have to give these people a lot of credit. It's an awful lot of money - very tempting but did the right thing.⿝

Brinks had apparently picked up the ATM transactions from the Mattydale area. Police say the truck was turning this corner from Wolf to North Salina and the money fell out. They believe back doors were ajar.

There were 14 plastic bags found. An inventory done by Brings determined there were 16 bags on the truck, totaling $336,000. More than $60,000 remains unaccounted for. ⿿Whether those fell out prior to the location found on North Salina or if someone grabbed them, we just don't know at this point,⿝ Sgt. Connellan said.

Police are re-tracing the route. Woods wouldn't be surprised if the missing cash isn't seen again. ⿿This isn't the wealthiest neighborhood. Chances are everyone walking down these streets right now - found bags, they wouldn⿿t, haven't said anything.⿝

Sgt. Connellan says it's possible someone grabbed the money before the good samaritans came out to find it. If you heard anyone talking about finding money or saw anything, you're asked to give police a call. Their number is 442-5222.

Your a honest kinda gal ...so what would you do.
Would you keep some ?

LuMPyPussy

It's all or nothing... they'd know if you kept just a little, so I'd probably give the whole thing back or it'd eat my guts out with anxiety.

SyberBitch

I'd keep at least part of it. Fuck 'em. They're insured and it's not like they gave anyone a reward for being so 'honest'.
