A deputy with the Albemarle County Sheriff's Office was attacked by a rooster Monday while serving a warrant at a house on Mountain View Drive in the county, according to Sheriff Chip Harding.

"Funny things occur in law enforcement from time to time," the sheriff wrote. He says three deputies went to the house to serve a warrant to Sara Bishop Gibson for failure to show up for a scheduled court date.

Sheriff Harding explains Deputy Tom Wood had a can of mace in his hand while keeping an eye on a dog in the front yard. All of a sudden, a large rooster hit him beak first just below the belt, hard enough to double him over.

At the same time as the attack, the deputy shot the rooster with mace, but witnesses say it appeared to have no effect on the bird. It eventually went back to walking around the yard eating.

Sheriff Harding says no one was home at the residence, so the deputies "continue their dangerous quest" to serve Gibson the warrant.

Had to be some pretty serious cock mock during that briefing. To top it off, the cop's name is Wood. He'll never hear the end of this on-the-job injury.

The thought of someone as stupid as dick carrying a gun in public as an LEO still sometimes gives me sleepness nights.

I wouldn't trust him not to hurt himself or others with a plastic spoon.
