(CBS News) Two U.S. troops have been shot to death and four more wounded by an Afghan solider who turned his gun on his allies in apparent anger over the burning of Korans at a U.S. military base in Afghanistan, an Afghan official tells CBS News.

A statement from the International Security Assistance Force - Afghanistan, the international coalition in the country, confirmed that two troops were killed in Eastern Afghanistan on Thursday by "an individual wearing an Afghan National Army uniform."

ISAF does not typically give the nationality of casualties until family members have been notified, but the CBS News source in the Afghan government said those killed and injured in the attack in the Khogyani district of the eastern Ningarhar province along the border with Pakistan were Americans.

The source also said the shooting appeared to be motivated by the burning of Korans at the sprawling U.S. Bagram air base, north of Kabul, but he did not provide additional details as to what led him to that conclusion.

They need to sack whatever commander ordered the Korans to be burnt where every fool could see them. I'm sure they wanted them destroyed because they were afraid the prisoners who used them might have written hidden messages in them, but doing it where Afghans could see was just fucking stupid. The deaths of the two service members are on that commander's head. It was stupid to do.

But it is even crazier to kill two people who had NOTHING to do with it. Those people need to rot over there. I am losing hope for them and their humanity. They are backward ass, ignorant, crazy, and hateful. They need to find another book to obsess over because the Koran doesn't seem to be doing them any good.

I don't like having our ground troops over there waiting to die. I think we really could accomplish much of what we want with drones, cruise missiles, CIA informants and the airpower of the Air Force and Navy.

It was a stupid mistake but I agree, they're nuts. They're over there burning our flags left and right--we're not shooting them for it FFS.

Here is an additional thing, my car is old like you all know. The starter motor died yesterday. It was getting fixed today at the mechanics. I had appointments this afternoon, when I went to pick up my car I had to order a taxi. He was pakistani and muslim. Helllo. I chatted to him and told him I was divorced. He wanted to know why. I wouldn't tell him. I just said 'a lot of reasons'. He said, it was my fault because I wanted to be too independent. He was a young guy and scary. I tipped him. Keep him happy.
