Photo: PAThe seven-month-old girl was left strapped into her pushchair on the riverbank while her mother and father were swept away by the fast flowing river.
Darren Greenan, 33, and Laura Frey, 30, lost their lives after entering the River Garnock in Ayrshire, which was in spate after heavy rain at the weekend.

Mr Greenan, a father-of-four who had three children from other relationships, got into difficulty while trying to save the dogs during a family walk on Sunday afternoon.
His girlfriend Miss Frey, a nurse, followed him into the water and quickly got into difficulties.
She was pulled out of the river by rescuers after a passer-by raised the alarm but died later in Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock, where she worked as a nurse.
The body of Mr Greenan, an unemployed builder, was recovered downstream from the site of the accident yesterday. Both dogs, a mongrel named Captain and a springer spaniel named Cooper, died in the incident.
The couple, from Kilwinning, were on a routine outing in the town with their daughter Ellis when the tragedy happened.
The baby girl was found by in her pushchair by a member of public who called for help and is being look after by relatives.
Laurie Miller, 28, Mr Greenan's cousin, said: "We're all distraught. He was a brilliant lad. Everything about him, he was just a good guy. He jumped in for Laura and this has happened, he's left four kids.
"He would have done anything for anyone. Darren could swim like a fish but there are bad currents there and a bid deep hole called the salmon hole."
Mr Miller said his cousin also had three children, Leonie, 17, Stephanie, seven, and Rachel, six, from previous relationships.
He said that Mr Greenan thought he had "met the right person eventually" after meeting Miss Frey.
Rescue teams, including a police helicopter and divers, searched two miles of the river to the point where it joins the River Irvine after the accident.
A police spokesman said: "Their dog entered the river and got into difficulties. The owner tried to help the dog and also got into difficulties. The woman went to the man's aid, but she too fell in."

I loveeee109 my pets so i guess yes i would but, i don't do water 21.
I can't swim so if the little cunt fell in any water he would have to chuffing well fend for him self ....sorry:Blush:

D

I'm sorry, but they sound dumber than dumb. You don't "fall in too". Fuck, grab hold of a tree or something with one hand while trying to drag him out or something. Ignorant fuckers. And no, if the river is overflowing with rain or ice melt runoff, I'd not be getting in. Sorry, but I've got kids (well, one), and they're more important. A pet isn't worth risking life for when you have more important responsibilities to tend to.

Shit, I wouldn't jump into a raging river to save a human.

Nor me.

I would if it was my daughter. Most anybody else? Fuck 'em.
Yes.
I would do it to say my boys but not my pets. It would be devastating to lose my pets but more devastating to lose a child or to leave my children without a mother.
In a New York minute !

I already have risked my life to save my moms collie. I was at my moms house alone with my kids, waiting for her to get home from work.

She has a pond and the dog was walking on it when it was frozen over. She got right to the middle and fell through. I got about half way to her when I fell through and had to break my way through the rest of the ice.

I will admit I took a second to think about it, hoping she would get herself out, but I love animals too much and would have never slept another peaceful night if I wouldn't have gotten her out of there.

I have hated the winter ever since and stay clear of ice on any occasion.

It was traumatizing, and my kids were only 6 and 7 at the time. They were in hysterics, which didn't help the situation at all.

Damn dog.
Goodbye Lassie........Goodbye...............21

I'd happily throw Maggot in that raging river and laugh maniacally while he bobbed and dunked his way to the ocean.

nahhh....she died of old age a few years ago.

SyberBitch

Prior to having my son, I would have done so (though I would have been more careful than those numbskulls in the story). Now that I have a little boy, I wouldn't risk my life to save a pet, but I would risk my life to save him.
Good thing I have pet fish and sea-monkeys and stuff.

Too bad your wife is going to find you, dead one day, drown in a 55 gallon aquarium, from trying to get it on with your Sea-Monkeys...

Borndragon ~ send me a photo of your mug, I'll make it happen.
