Since we do not always hear good stuff about cops, here are a couple of things that are on the good news side. Last week, our city police did a children's book drive, to benefit two city schools. The outcome was much more than they expected:

More than 6,000 new and gently-used children’s books were collected Wednesday by Rochester police officers during a books drive.

The Rochester Police Department’s Police Activities League had planned to donate collected books to two city elementary schools. But with an unexpected surplus of donated books, officers will instead give the collected books to six city schools.

School No. 20 and School No. 4, both initially selected to receive the donated books, will be joined by four more Rochester elementary schools that have not yet been announced, according to Rochester police.

Some budget cuts in Geneseeo, NY almost cost their K-9 cop his job. But Lollypop Farm, the local shelter raised the funds to keep him on the job. Originally, when he was going to be cut, because he was considered a village asset, he was going to be auctioned off, his human partner would not have been able to keep him. But he is going to keep his job after all.

Rosko, the police dog, who was being cut from the force in Geneseo because of a tight budget, isn’t losing his job after all.

Lollypop Farm posted a note on its Facebook page saying thanks to concerns and donations, Rosko can keep his job. He’ll remain with his handler officer Jason Yasso who he has been with for the past four years.

Lollypop Farm says a restricted fund has been set up to provide for the K9 function on the force at zero taxpayer cost.
