It seems some recent excavation has determined that they have bodies. Go figure.

Jeezus, look at the scale of those things next to the people. Kinda adds a new wrinkle to the theories on their construction...

I am convinced that they originally stood completely above the ground and were covered naturally over time by the weather, not buried by their creators as some have posited. This I am sure this can be confirmed by measuring the amount of erosion to the carving as you examine the stone from head to foot.
