If the cops told you to stop searching for your missing child would you stop?
First they'd have to get me to stop long enough to tell me to stop. Of course not.
Did this happen? Who would stop? Ridiculous.

Yes, it did. I just read about it in the crime forum. It's in regards to the kid who went missing while swimming.
I couldn't stop even if I wanted to stop, ever (but I would stay out of LE searches if they advised against it and I trusted them; would go cover ground elsewhere).
WTH?? No I would not stop. I would bet Jaycee Dugard's mom never stopped..or Elizabeth Smart. WTF
family members should NOT participate in searches, especially if any foul play is suspected.
you cannot have family members fucking up or tampering with evidence or a crime scene.
not to mention the trauma of finding a dead child in whatever condition.
it compromises any investigation.
case in point, john ramsey.

BIG error on some cop's part.
john "discovered" JonBenet in a small basement room, tore the tape off her mouth, carried her upstairs. completely fouled up evidence & DNA.
that crime scene should have been taped off/sealed, photographed, M.E. brought in, photos taken, evidence & prints collected before body was touched.
I understand the reasoning behind the request from the police but I only see the easily cowed adhering to it.
I too understand the reasoning. However, I doubt I would be in a reasonable frame of mind if one of my boys were missing. So asking me to stop looking would probably fall on deaf ears.

well if the parents (or anyone) refuse to obey a lawful order to remain out of search area, then their asses should be locked up. it's serious business and needs to be left to the pros. not civilians or the emotionally-involved.
in some situations civilian volunteers are requested, they are supervised carefully. parents can pass flyers, man booths, etc.
