This is why I hate my job sometimes. Just got a new case - a 20 year old male fatality. I HATE cases like this. It's so heartbreaking. I dread talking to the family because I have a hard time not getting emotional. 21

Was he at fault?
I believe so. He was trying to pass a tractor trailer and hit the car head on in the opposit lane. **sigh**

How much time do you give families before you begin to discuss business?
It's okay to feel badly for the family and not yourself. j/s.
I DO feel bad for the family. I hate having to bother them at a time like this. THAT is why I get all emotional. My heart breaks for them and there really is nothing I can say that will make them feel better. At least not at first. Maybe down the road knowing they have benefits for a funeral will help.

It's quite costly to bury someone. Call them right now & tell them the check is in the mail. Thanks!

Try: "It looks like he was wearing new boxers at the time of the crash."

Don't mention they were around his ankles when they dragged him from the wreckage.

Or the Asian Boy porn mag, clutched in his non-dominant hand.

LOL we don't say that yet. Whoever gets to call as there are several of us on the claim, will just let them know the claim is reported and who's handling what and advise they can contact us when they are ready.
I just talked to the grandfather and he started crying. That did me in right there.

Old guys are brief men . . . that's why the tears.

Shoulda suggested you be ready to change on the fly.

You can always pretend that you're paying a compliment to Cracker when making these calls.

Might help.

It almost seems as if you're speaking from experience. If not, you are truly wise.
If so, still wise- just colorful too.
I wonder how the poor bastard he hit head on is...

Seriously injured. Multiple fractures. In the hospital.
Ramsey, fwiw - a few years back, I had to deal with institutions and insurance companies after someone close to me had died. I can clearly recall that those who helped me most were the people who, after expressing their understanding of my situation, explained the procedures as clearly as possible, made sure I understood all the legalese, and promised me to do everything they could to make things happen as smoothly as possible.
I usually hate to get emotional in the presence of others, so I appreciated it when people express their condolences as short as possible, if at all.
Thanks Ily, but I know how to hanldle the people. I have handled many fatalities. I just hate them because it's so sad.

Impotence (ED) is NOT classified as a fatality!

It is a treatable condition.

Try warming your hands, first.
I just looked at the photos of our kids vehicle. He had a little brigh yellow pick up truck. Now it's a mangled mess of yello metal. The vehicle is completed destroyed.

This makes me not want my kids to ever drive.
