It seems my laptop has bitten the dust. I had it on at work, and it was working fine this morning. During lunch, I kept it on, but just shut the lid. Opened it back up, and it would not wake up from sleep mode. Tride force quitting, to shut it down.

When I tried to refire it up, nothing. The power light came on, and then a few seconds later a loud beeping..think the back up beep on a bus. A co worker called her boyfriend, who is a computer fixit guy. He had her do all these things to it..remove the battery, put it back, try to start it plugged in with no battery and all. Nothing. Just the beeping. He then told her to have me let it sit for 20 minutes or so. Still nothing. I hear the fan come on, but that is it. He told her he would take a look at it for me, but I am not sure if I want to invest in fixing it, or just get a new one. It is only about 3 years old. JUST out of warrenty.
The bitch is, last week, when I was off work I was thinking I should back up my files onto a flash drive, but never did it. It sucks to be me right now.

I feel your pain, it happened to me a couple months ago.
I feel for you, QB.

My Sony laptop is only 17 months old and doing something very similar (crashing, not turning on right away, sometimes starts only with reserve battery in and other times only with reserve battery out and plugged in, fan's very loud...). I'm backing up files today and taking it in. Sucks.

Try taking out the battery, plugging in and then trying to turn it on after 30 minutes or so - hit the power on button a few times if it doesn't turn on right away. That's the only way I'm able to get mine to start up after it crashes/sleeps. If it works, it should at least give you time to back up files.

Good luck.
Wait until my husband hears this. We JUST paid off our Credit card this weekend. In fact, the last thing I did was check to see if payment was clear yet. This one was a bigger one, and with that payment, and two payments to two smaller balance cards, we cleared three cards to zero balances!!

Fuck my life.
Here is the update...I looked through my files (the paper ones, in a filing cabinet, remember those?) and found that because I bought the extended warranty, it is still covered. So I called the warranty people to explain the fucked up stuff it was doing...even had the guy listen to the beeping sound. He said, OK, we can fix it. Got to Fed Ex the laptop to the place..they are sending me a pre-paid empty box and shipping label. I may be without my laptop for a week or 10 days, but It may be fixed. Or not.
I hope they can fix it, QB. Crossing my fingers for you.

Mine's at the computer doctor too to see if it can be patched up.

Two to three weeks estimated before I know one way or the other. Had to buy a replacement in the meantime (which I'm told I can return and have fully refunded if the Sony is repairable - sure hope it is).

Thinking positively that both of our patients can be revived...
These things need a USB port for mouth to mouth.

Just got off phone with the tech place. My computer is on its way home to me. Should have it in a couple days. They repaired the motherboard and did a system restore. Guess that means my hard drive is safe.

YAY
If I was you I would request a new credit card and stuff.
