Do you choose the sand & surf or trees and nature?

While I enjoy the beach I always choose to go someplace where I can be in nature...hiking, riding, fires at night and sitting under a tree reading, stuff like that.
Oregon coast in the summer...Maui the rest of the time.
Sand and surf or mountains, typically.

We went to Italy years ago and that was an entirely different experience. Very little relaxing; a lot of exploring. I wouldn't want to do something like that every year but I'm ready for another trip like that. I definitely want to take my kids overseas some time before they graduate.
Sand and Surf....always. I'm going thru vacation withdrawl this winter, I'll be damned if I miss another winter vacation in the tropics. I would go to the mountains in the summer.
Sand and surf. I LOVE the beach. I love everything about it.
Belize and Costa Rica were a blast! Love traveling to NYC to see friends, but we typically do not go until the Autumn each year.

Italy is a trip worth taking, but I suggest breaking it up over a couple week period for first timers. The range of food, wine, art, history, and fashion is broken up by region. I have family in Verona, Milan, Lake Garda, and Breschia. A couple others live down near Naples and the Adriatic Sea. I'm not the most religious person, but I was in complete disbelief when I saw the original "last supper" painting. The art and architecture can truly inspire!!! Did I mention how wonderful the food is? By the way, I hated Venice. What a tourist trap, but its worth the one time visit to see St. Mark's. It is just draped inside with GOLD.

A friend of ours recently went to the maldives islands; which really appeals to us both. So its something we are looking into. However, she also went to United Emirates and the photos plus her overall opinion of the vacation was amazing!! Apparently, its very modern and the people love tourist.
We stayed two nights in Rome and then the bulk of the time in a villa just outside Umbria and then took day trips to Florence, Perugia and many, many other little towns (which started to all look the same). Visited the Chianti region. We stayed a couple of nights in Venice. We literally ran out of money taking the train back from Venice. We were freaking starving by the time our ride picked us up.

I get real picky about where I go when I am there. The family trips alternate every other year. They come here (by the dozen) and we go there. They are coming here this year. So I am sure Disney, and other northern Florida desitnations will be their focus. There is an odd obsession with Harry Potter too? Ha!

I loved Florence! Had the best steak and wine there. My mother's uncle (Guido) had us stay in a hotel that was once a monastery. The art in the bedrooms alone were breathtaking. It overlooked the city as well, just breathtaking and romantic. If you do go back, I suggest a relaxing trip to Lake Garda or Cuomo!!

George has a home on Lake Cuomo. Hear that, User?

I hate to say it, but George is gay. Such a waste......
We don't vacation very often but my choice is always the beach, my husband is more of the outdoorsy nature type though. We are going to Hocking Hills this weekend. Renting a cabin, hiking trails, pond, natural caves.

Neither really. Relaxing on the beach isn't really my idea of a great vacation since I live a block away from one and I'm not a nature or wilderness kinda person either. I like to stay at luxury hotels and walk around exploring the culture, history, art, food and pubs.

That's got my name written all over it. As long as I have a few creature comforts you could stick me in the middle of no where and I'd be perfectly happy.
I'm excited but nervous to see how the 4 year old will take it all in. Luckily we are going with some other family so he'll have lots of attention and things to do. I am looking forward to sitting on the deck enjoying the surroundings!

Sally, do you bring home recipes like some people bring home souvenirs?

You can do all of those at the same time in Brazil.

At Christmas I was in the Amazon jungle eating, drinking, exploring, swimming under waterfalls with friends and family.

Awesome.

I bet it was. It would be nice if you posted some pix in the Photography forum. I don't ask because I don't believe you, I ask because I hit up all of our vacationing Members for photos.

Nice to see you in Mock!
