the saga of joran van der sloot / victims Natalee Holloway & Stephany Flores
#1
most people know the van der sloot story, in all its grimy glory, so i won't rehash it. this is the latest. jailers in peru used booking photo equipment for this shot of notorious young murderers. kind of pathetic isn't it, do any of them have an inkling of the ruined lives including their own?
the 'fame' and misfortune photo.

CNN) -- Authorities in Peru said Tuesday they have begun disciplinary action against jailers who photographed suspected killer Joran van der Sloot posing with two other men held in connection with high-profile killings there.

The photograph, first aired by the Peruvian television network America TV, shows the 22-year-old van der Sloot standing alongside fellow inmates Hugo Trujillo Ospina and William Trickett Smith II. A fourth man in the picture is not identified.

Peru's National Institute of Corrections said Tuesday that disciplinary action was in the works over the photo.

"On August 23, the Office of Internal Affairs of the institution began administrative and disciplinary actions with the goal of establishing responsibility over the acts of official misconduct by employees of the Castro Castro Correctional Institution," the agency announced. "They improperly used photographic equipment that was meant for administrative duties."

Van der Sloot faces a murder charge in the death of college student Stephany Flores, who was found dead in his Lima hotel room in May. Police said he confessed to the killing after his arrest, but van der Sloot is asking a court to throw out his statement.

Authorities say van der Sloot has not received any visits from his family or given any interviews since his arrest.

The 22-year-old Dutch national was a suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway on Aruba. He was arrested twice but released both times for lack of evidence.

He has denied involvement and has not been charged in the case, though federal prosecutors in the United States say he tried to extort $250,000 from Holloway's mother in exchange for information about the whereabouts of her daughter's remains.

Ospina, a Colombian, faces trial for murder in the contract killing of Peruvian entrepreneur Myriam Fefer, while Smith is accused of killing his Peruvian wife, dismembering her and stuffing her body in a suitcase that was later found by fishermen offshore.

Ospina, Smith and van der Sloot were being held in a protective custody wing of the Castro Castro prison, away from other inmates, when the photo was taken last week, Peruvian authorities said. Van der Sloot is the only one of the three who is now being held there, they said.

so now he admits extortion...this to me is an attempt to get extradited OUT of peru where a lifetime in one of their prisons will be hellish.

AMSTERDAM -- The Dutchman charged with killing a 21-year-old Peruvian woman and suspected in the disappearance of U.S. teenager Natalee Holloway has acknowledged extorting money from Holloway's parents and says he did it to get back at them, according to an interview published Monday.

The Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf quoted Joran van der Sloot as confessing to taking money from the family of the teenager in return for revealing the location of her body. He was indicted in the U.S. in June for extortion after being caught in an FBI sting, though the place he indicated as her burial site site turned out to be bogus.

Holloway was last seen alive with him on the Caribbean resort island of Aruba in 2005, and he has publicly said he killed her and then retracted his confession several times.

"I wanted to get back at Natalee's family -- her parents have been making my life tough for five years," the paper quoted him as saying from prison in Peru. "When they offered to pay for the girl's location, I thought: 'Why not'?"

U.S. prosecutors say that in the sting earlier this year, Natalee's mother sent $10,000 in cash to Van der Sloot through an FBI witness, and a wire transfer of $15,000 to Van der Sloot's bank account in the Netherlands. He took the money and flew to Latin America.

It's been five years since 18-year-old Natalee Holloway disappeared while on a high school graduation trip to Aruba. Now, Joran van der Sloot, the last known person seen alive with the young Alabama woman, has confessed to hiding her body in an island marsh, according to a Dutch newspaper, and admitted to Peruvian officials that he murdered 21-year-old Peruvian Stephany Flores.

He has been charged with killing Stephany Flores in his hotel room in Lima, Peru on May 30 -- 5 years to the day after Holloway's disappearance. He met both women in casinos.

Van der Sloot initially confessed to killing Flores to Peruvian police, but later said he only did so because he was intimidated and had been promised he would be extradited to the Netherlands.

His requests to have the confession retracted have so far been denied and he awaits trial.

photos, Flores' shirt. CCTV he and she enter his hotel room.she was beaten to a pulp. overkill.

I don't think he deserves any consideration. No chances to leave that hellhole. He had basically already gotten away with murder & he squandered his opportunity. Fuck him. Throw away the key.

this entire article is a fascinating look at a sociopath, i think he would have gone on to become a classic serial killer. he has a sense of entitlement, and no conscience.

JORAN INTERVIEW

In an interview, van der Sloot expresses remorse for his behavior
He describes himself as "impulsive"
An attorney for Holloway's mother says his remarks are familiar
Van der Sloot wouldn't talk about the Stephany Flores case
(CNN) -- In a jailhouse interview with a Dutch television station, Joran van der Sloot said he is remorseful for telling so many stories regarding the 2005 disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway, but once again denied culpability in the case.
It's a familiar refrain, said John Q. Kelly, an attorney for Holloway's mother, Beth Twitty.
"He's always a victim. He's always seeking attention. He's always misunderstood and someday he's absolutely going to tell the truth," Kelly said on NBC. "... He's a pathological liar."

"For everything that's happened since 2005, all the things said in the media and everything, I feel guilty for, yeah," van der Sloot, 22, said in the interview, portions of which were aired on NBC's "Today" on Tuesday.

The Dutch citizen is jailed in Lima, Peru, where he is awaiting trial on a murder charge in the death of Peruvian student Stephany Flores. Her body was found in May in a hotel room registered to van der Sloot, which the two were seen entering on surveillance camera video. He also is charged with a count of wire fraud and a count of extortion in Alabama for allegedly trying to extort more than $250,000 from Holloway's family in return for disclosing the location of her body.

Holloway was last seen in the early hours of May 30, 2005, leaving an Oranjestad, Aruba, nightclub with van der Sloot and two other men, brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe. She was visiting the island with about 100 classmates to celebrate their graduation from Mountain Brook High School in suburban Birmingham, Alabama.

Van der Sloot was arrested twice in Aruba in connection with Holloway's disappearance, but was never charged. He has denied responsibility for her disappearance.

In the interview, van der Sloot said he feels guilty about his father's fatal heart attack, for not listening to his mother and for telling lies, as well as his past behavior.

"I was doing a lot of things that I shouldn't have been doing, and mostly only going out all the night and sleeping all the day," he said, describing himself as "impulsive."

Asked why he's told so many different stories about the Holloway case, he said, "There were people who were paying me to make up stories, and I was really good at making up stories. Everybody keeps coming at you asking questions ... if you want something, I'll tell you whatever you want to hear, sure."

Still, he said, he has "misused the situation for my own advantage." He said he feels bad about that and would take it back if he had the opportunity.

WTF??? i just heard Natalie Holloway's mom was arrested in the peruvian jail trying to get to van der sloot!
i have to wait for details. holy shit. the poor woman has lost it if this is true.

edit...there are conflicting and exaggerated reports.
Beth Holloway, formerly Beth Twitty, entered the Castro Castro Prison with Dutch TV journalist Peter de Vries, who is investigating her daughter's disappearance. Holloway managed to speak to Van der Sloot for about five minutes, Peru's 24 Horas reported, but was removed from the facility after it was found she did not have permission to speak to him.

paranoia runs deep. and is getting to him. a guilty conscience?

Joran van der Sloot attacks prison guard, thinks he will be poisoned

According to several reports, Joran van der Sloot, the prime suspect in the disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway, recently went “berserk” in a Peruvian prison and attacked a guard. He also believes someone is trying to kill him by poisoning him.

Van der Sloot, 23, is behind bars in the Miguel Castro Castro Prison, accused of murdering Stefany Flores in a Lima hotel room in May.

The Dutchman allegedly became aggressive and unruly on September 15, 2010, after Natalee’s mother, Beth Twitty, entered the prison facility to confront him.

A source told the National Enquirer “After Beth confronted him, asking, ‘What did you do with Natalee?’ Joran realized how easy it was for anyone to get to him.”

The tabloid notes that Van der Sloot had already believed someone in prison was trying to poison his food and became enraged saying “People here want to kill me!” He then tried to punch a guard and flee the cell block before being detained and placed into solitary confinement, the report says.

The Enquirer reported earlier this week that van der Sloot had been bribing guards, having food and drink from outside prison brought to him, and was purchasing new clothes with $50,000 obtained doing Dutch media interviews.

i also hear they have prostitutes in to service the inmates.

Several days after Twitty’s visit, one prison guard refused to take bribes from van der Sloot and told him he was required to eat the same food as the other inmates.

“Joran thought the guard was in on a plot to kill him, and he went totally berserk,” a source told the Enquirer. “He yelled insults at the guard, and then threw a punch at him. Joran was hysterical. He was so crazy with fear of being murdered in prison that he started blindly running in a bid to escape. He made it through one door of the cell block and almost made it through a second door before another guard tackled him and held him down. If that guard hadn’t acted so quickly, who knows how far Joran would have gone? He could have found a hiding place in jail that could have led to an escape.”

The source added, "All the cockiness has been drained from him now... Joran now realizes that he can't buy everyone."

if this can be shown to be Natalee's that's good for her parents.
but joran will never stand trial in Aruba if Peru has their way. and even if it is hers, it doesn't necessarily connect him to it.

(CNN) -- Investigators could know as early as Wednesday whether a jawbone found on an Aruban beach last week belongs to an animal or a human, authorities said.

If it is human, authorities will then attempt to find out whether it belongs to missing Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway, who was last seen on the island in 2005.

Part of the bone is undergoing forensic testing at the Netherlands Forensic Institute in The Hague, Netherlands, according to Aruban prosecutor Peter Blanken.

"They are testing for a DNA match," said Blanken.

Inge Oevering, a spokeswoman for the forensic institute, said the length of testing will depend on the condition of the material, but it normally takes about a week.

The institute's findings will be sent back to the prosecutor's office in Aruba, which will decide whether to make the results public, she said. Oevering declined to provide a description of the material.

Blanken said a part of a jawbone with a tooth was found on Friday by an American tourist.

Oranjestad, Aruba (CNN) -- The piece of jawbone found on a beach on Aruba this month is human, but is not that of long-missing Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway, Aruban prosecutors said Tuesday.

The piece contained a wisdom tooth, and Holloway's had been removed before her 2005 disappearance, Aruba Solicitor-General Taco Stein told reporters.

"Right there and then, it was obvious it wasn't Natalee," Stein said. Investigators are now trying to determine whether the bone came from any other people reported missing, he said.

The bone was found earlier this month by an American tourist near the Phoenix Hotel, a resort on the western side of the island, Aruban prosecutor Peter Blanken said. Its discovery triggered the investigation into whether it belonged to Holloway, who was 18 when last seen on the island in May 2005.

Stein said the news was "another tragedy" for Holloway's family, since it brought them no closer to learning what happened to their daughter. There was no immediate response to the news from Holloway's mother, Beth, but her father, Dave Holloway, thanked well-wishers after the announcement.

"We remain hopeful that some day we will find the answer to the whereabouts of our daughter, Natalee Holloway," he said. "Again, we want to thank everyone for their support in our efforts to find justice. We ask that you continue to remember Natalee in your thoughts and prayers."

Investigators tested the bone at the Netherlands Forensic Institute in The Hague, Netherlands. Their job was to determine whether it was a human or animal bone and -- if it proved to be human -- figure out who it belonged to.

3 to 5 years?? i'll be shocked if the court accepts this. the father of the murdered girl is very prominent in Peru.

LIMA, Peru – Joran van der Sloot's lawyer says his client will plead guilty to killing a young Peruvian woman he met gambling but argue temporary insanity in a bid for a shorter sentence.

The attorney for Van der Sloot, who remains the key suspect in the 2005 disappearance of U.S. teenager Natalee Holloway on the Caribbean island of Aruba, says his client will use the "violent emotion" defense in the Stephany Flores case.

Attorney Maximo Altez says Van der Sloot became enraged and killed Flores last May because she learned of his relation to Holloway by looking in his laptop.

If the plea is accepted, Van der Sloot would be sentenced to 3 to 5 years. He is charged with first-degree murder, which carries a 15- to 35-year sentence on conviction.

Joran van der Sloot, the prime suspect in the disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway, has been accused of stabbing three fellow inmates inside a Peruvian jail, Dutch media reported Wednesday.

Van Der Sloot, 23, is behind bars awaiting trial over the murder of a Peruvian woman.

According to Dutch magazine Panorama, he has been involved in a string of violent confrontations inside Lima's Castro Castro prison, one of which left another inmate requiring emergency treatment.

Van der Sloot's lawyer has denied the allegations, describing them as "fabricated."

Panorama also alleged that van der Sloot has been a heavy drug user while in jail. "He has been put into solitary confinement several times but comes out even more angry," a source told the magazine.

The article was followed up by Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf Wednesday. It said it had put the allegations to his lawyer, Maximo Altez, who dismissed them. "There are bad intentions to do harm to Joran," Altez said. "But he actually wants to change his life and goes to church." 30

Peruvian prisons ain’t Alcatraz.

Joran van der Sloot, the principal suspect in the disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway in Aruba, is rumored to have gotten his latest girlfriend pregnant while imprisoned in Lima.

The Dutchman is currently incarcerated at Castro Castro Jail while awaiting a murder trial for the death and robbery of Stephany Flores in June 2010.

His new girlfriend, who is not identified, BUT IS A COMPLETE IDIOT allegedly worked at a casino frequented by Stephany Flores and visits van der Sloot’s cell to do “chores” and give him candy, which he uses to run a “lucrative” snack bar from his cell.

The victim’s father, Ricardo Flores, saw van der Sloot at a recent court hearing and said he expected to see a “miserable person.” Instead, he was shocked to see a ”fatso.”

Ricardo Flores has asked jail officials to investigate the conjugal visits.

wouldn't this be a kick in the teeth?

(CNN) -- The family of a slain Peruvian woman is urging prosecutors to file their case against murder suspect Joran van der Sloot, warning that he may be released by December unless the case goes ahead.

"We are worried because Peruvian law says that if a suspect's trial doesn't begin within 18 months after his arrest, authorities are obligated to set the suspect free," Ricardo Flores, the dead woman's father, told CNN.

Van der Sloot faces charges in the May 2010 killing of Stephany Flores, who was found dead in his Lima hotel room. Police say van der Sloot took money and bank cards from her wallet and fled to Chile, where he was arrested a few days later.

Investigators delivered their case file to prosecutors in June for a decision on charges. Ricardo Flores said the prosecutor in the case, Miriam Riveros Castellares, is "not moving with the speed that a case of this magnitude merits."

"We're asking that either the prosecutor file charges or that authorities remove her from this case and name somebody else," he said.

There was no immediate response to the family's concerns from the prosecutor's office.

I swear I think Joran is the Dutch male equivalent of Casey Anthony. Party, steal, kill, and make up a new lie when the old one gets quashed. Both remorseless sociopaths who seem to get away with murder, literally.

Remember when we heard Peru was gonna eat Joran alive? Then we heard he was doing just fine and teaching English to other inmates. Now we hear his case is moving forward at snail's speed. What a crock. Just my opinion.

(CNN) -- Peruvian authorities have charged Joran van der Sloot with murder in the case of the death of a Peruvian woman.

Van der Sloot was arrested in June of last year, but was not formally charged until Thursday.

Prosecutors are asking for a 30-year prison sentence and a restitution of $73,000 to the family of Stephany Flores. They also charged van der Sloot with theft.

Charged alongside van der Sloot were three Peruvian drivers who allegedly helped him flee Peru into Chile. Prosecutors want five-year prison sentences for them and fines of about $1,800.

Van der Sloot is now charged with the May 2010 killing of Flores, who was found dead in his Lima hotel room. Police say van der Sloot took money and bank cards from her wallet and fled to Chile, where he was arrested a few days later.

Earlier this month, Flores' family urged prosecutors to file their case, warning that van der Sloot could be released by December unless the case goes ahead. Under Peruvian law, if a suspect's trial doesn't begin within 18 months of his arrest, he is set free.

Investigators delivered their case file to prosecutors in June for a decision on charges.

No date has been set for trial.
