Scholarship changes being made today.

Here is the new up and coming college scholarship awards being handed out:

SAN ANTONIO, Tex. — Members of a new Texas association are starting a college scholarship program for a group of students they say do not have as many scholarship options as others -- white men.

Colby Bohannan, a student at Texas State University in San Marcos, and some friends have formed the non-profit Former Majority Association for Equality, which will provide the scholarships. The idea was that there are many scholarships geared toward helping minorities and women attend college, and there are also scholarships for people from certain religions or from certain families. But Bohannan thought his demographic group was missing.

"We know that we're going to be receiving some vicious attacks, from people claiming that we are racists, or promoting some bigotry-filled agenda," Bohannan said on Thursday.

Starting this summer, the association plans to provide as many as five $500 scholarships to deserving white men who have at least a 3.0 grade point average, Bohannan said.

"Our aim is actually just to help students," he said. "We are not trying to jump on any political agenda or bandwagon."

Non-Hispanic whites are, in fact, a minority in the state of Texas. Census numbers released earlier this month show that they make up about 42 percent of the state's population, down from more than half just ten years ago.

To qualify for the group's scholarship, applicants have to be able to prove that they are at least 25 percent Caucasian," Bohannan said.

"We're not looking for blond-haired, blue-eyed, stereotypical white males," he said. "My feeling is that if you can say you're 25 percent Caucasian, you're Caucasian enough for us."

Over 60% (closer to 70%) of African American men who enter college at public univeristies (not sure about all-black institutions, no~I don't mean jails) fail to graduate. The more money you give them, the more sneaks and 40s they buy...

And . . . to netsleuth's dismay:

"Best Sources for Minority Grants
Federal and state government grant funds are most proactive in handing out need-based aid to minority and low-income students. In each case there are deeper socioeconomic and political purposes, but the intent is to build a larger more self-sustaining economy as well as nurture self-sustaining communities. Popular federal grants include:

•Pell Grant
•Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant
•Academic Competitiveness Grant
•National SMART Grant

These are not earmarked for minorities, you say? These federal grant programs remain essential tools for minority students: statistics continue to show that the majority of the grant monies go to fund the educations of minority—and disabled—students. If you are a minority student, from a low-income household, you must consider the Pell Grant one of your greatest opportunities.

If you don’t apply or qualify for a Pell Grant then you are automatically shut out of the FSEOG, the AC Grant, and the SMART grant—they all require students to be Pell recipients. "

STEM grants are ONLY for minorities. It is the thing about college funding I never understood: Why give money to the least likely to finish the program and make real world contributions?

We are a nation that encourages weakness and stupidity. ALL COLLEGE FUNDING should academic in nature. Anything else is discrimination against non-minorities.

Don't worry, whites will be in the minority soon and the grants will have to go that way. I believe it should be an academic award, not a racial or minority thing. That question should not even be on the application. Can you imagine the implications of having the same question on an employment application? Equality should be just that equal. Until this happens racial tensions will continue.

I better stay out of this conversation!
I've been looking into trying to get some assistance to send one of my kids to College.
I'm learning right now how much is given to everyone else's kids other than the working man.
It pisses me off that the people paying for everybody else's kid's cant be considered by almost every Grant or Scholarship because if 2 parents work to keep their bills barely paid, they will be earning too much to be considered for any "need based" program. And it does not seem their are very many at all that are not "need based".

The more I find out about how the education system works, the more disappointed I get. It isn't the people working in education that are bad, it is the policies sent down by feds. They are fuckers.

Illegal immigrants, at this moment in time, qualify for more help than hard-working citizens. It's a damn shame.

Who will grow up to put back into the system? If you answer that question honestly, you can see exactly how education dollars are wasted...

I put my older daughter through college and it just about killed me. This time I have a college account started way ahead of time. I am hoping for a scholarship because they are super smart, athletic and have a keen sense of the world and how it can be manipulated.........just like me. Smiley_emoticons_wink

I've never been given an answer to my question, "Why only TWO years for college or military service?" requested in the Dream Act.

I do continue to get the: "You're a racist".

Two years?

C'mon . . . that's just enough training to get you a supervisory position with Acorn or a seat on the Senate floor.

Or an Obama Care health care worker position.
